Just go guys, Max will welcome you. Levels are there to be move...up is the goal. I would be there if I was not coaching myself.
Good on you Max give these guys a day to remember...
I haveto disagree with Peter. While Max is a very nice guy and may not tell you to go away, he is running course racing exercises. You would be wasting his and your time if you have never raced before.
If you are seriously interested in course racing then start by attending some club racing at LCSC or RQYS. Lots of people are available there to get you started. When you are able to start and finish a race then it could be of some benefit to attend a session with Max. Otherwise you will just be holding everyone else up and will probably not even understand what he is talking about.
50/50 a few hours is dedicated to preparation and training suitable to anyone i would suggest and then a few hours of full on racing.
If unsure about where your at i'm sure it couldn't hurt to find out by attending at the beginning and learing so common tips to everyone.
Most of the nationals crew can't make staurday unfortunatly and will be there sunday from 1pm having a hit out.
Hi Morgan Jaye and Anthony
Tony is correct in that Max makes you work and the pace is sometimes pretty quick, I remember one session where we were practicing starts and we had to sail a small course, two tacks to get to the top mark do a gybe half way back down and be back on the start line ready for the next start. The start whistle went every 4 or 5 minutes and the exercise lasted for about 40 minutes and all that in planing conditions, I was shagged, and then the next exercise after that.
However
If I couldn't get to the start on time,I dropped a gybe or something, you just wait for the next start, so even if you only did half the laps of everyone else it doesn't matter I don't think you will hold anyone up and you will definatley learn something, so I would say come along do your best and if or when you've had enough just let Max know your going in. I know if you attend it will expand your sailing world and Jaye will benefit. You need a board with a centreboard.
ps: we will be sailing out through the harbour so if that is something you would rather not do you could just rig up at the beach and walk down to the rigging area next to the clubhouse for the preperation and debrief's etc.
Forecast looks pretty mild which would be well suited to you guys as a starting point.
