Just a heads up for any one interested. The first two races of the season yesterday started in great conditions, one race board two formula two techno and three rsx lined up. Looked margin for the formula but the 10 to 12 knots were enough to keep the big kit on the plane around the course. Some pretty tight racing but Jamie's skills on the Raceboard earned him two bullets.
One stage the two formula and Raceboard arrived at the top mark together and it was a drag race down to the first gybe I overran both in the drag race with the extra power of the 10.7 but gybed to early and underlayed the gate, doh, put me back into third. Jacob led to the last down leg but the dropping wind saw him drop off the plane momentarily with the Raceboard hot on his heels. Jamie got in front again and crossed the line again first.

Racing is every Saturday now until Christmas casual entry is an option so you don't need membership if you want to maximise your time on the water I can recommend course racing as a great option that's great fun.

It's that time of year already?

I'll plan to come down on some weekends this year Cameron, keen to get involved! I need a new sail though...

What time are the races usually?

Yeah call into reception to get a pin number to get into the club then you need to drop into the sailing office to register and pay casual entry and sign on for the races after the races you need to sign off again otherwise they will be looking for on the water.

Race no 7 and 8 yesterday, so far 8 races in planing conditions (formula) over 4 weeks, couldn't ask for a better start to the season. I missed the first race due to getting scared, rigged up the 9.5 for the raceboard then decided I was being to ambitious so changed to a 8.6 on the formula.

Was still a bit scared as I injured my ribs in a catapult the previous week and they are still sore and I didn't want to go over the front again this week, I like that feeling of butterflies in your stomach as you head out. I was dreading the downwind runs but got through unscathed. Dropped the last gybe in the deep channel at Green Is, when I got going again the clamp cleat let go in the boom head and it went all loose on the mast so I sailed the last downwind leg with the boom flopping around the bottom of the pocket, then my calf muscle started to cramp in my back leg all while doing 20 something knots over the back of some pretty large chop. Arms Legs and shoulders are aching today. Love course racing, can't wait for next Saturday now.
