Wondering if windsurfing can be practice all year round here in Brisbsne? Seems most of the schools don't do lessons Apr to Sep?
Sure. Weather isn't a problem. Doesn't get too cold, a wetsuit does the job. Good Westerly and SE winds. Whether the Windsurf Schools
are open, i don't know? Ask simon from board crazy windsurfing shop.
Or you can try Robbie lea at the Academy of Sailing at Maroochydore, I know he just purchased 6 new boards for windsurfing instruction.
If the conditions are right, no excuse not to sail!
Just need to keep an eye on the wind and tides and away you go.....
May not be as consistent or as often but it does happen over winter!
I hate the cold but when you get a good front coming through and a great sail although chilly, it really makes you feel alive.
Enjoy
Wind and tides ... what do I have to watch for? Quite embarrassing but my experience in Australian waters so far has only been waist deep and between the flags ![]()
Experienced windsurfers look for more wind, there are some spots which can be annoying at particular tides as you have to walk out through mud or dangerous from sailing into shallow water. There is always somewhere to sail though in any wind direction. Wind wise April-May tend to be our quiet months.
Best course of action is talk to someone like simon from boardcrazy, then look to sites like his or windwanderers which give a bit of a write up of different sailing spots. Saying hi & asking if there is anything to watch out for is always good when sailing at any new spot or one you havnt sailed in a while.
April-Sept not as popular due to little bit colder & offshore winds which can make some spots a bit difficult to teach at.
In my opinion our best wavesailing is done in winter with south west to west winda creating cross off conditions on the sunny coast. I like the cold too. But I'm a bit weird
