Gday boys n girls
I am taking the family to Umina caravan park this weekend coming and it looks like a southerly will be rolling in on Sunday.
Is it good in a southerly?
Wheres the best spot to launch?
Im a flat water sailor normally but can handle a little bump and jump. Will Umina be to wild for my abilitys??
cheersnbeers

my wife was at Umina when the whole SLS state nippers nearly got cancelled a few weeks back. It was pretty foul weather, she said some kiters were out. Essentially, yes it is open and well sailable, bit of a shore break in S swell.
All the 'locals' seem to go to Canton beach these days - flatwater. I believe it is better suited to NW/W/SW but as long as not SE still good. There is a post recently with pics & vid. You can stand in the lake if you have dramas.
Fri might be good. Sunday looking better, so don't get sick on chocy eggs and hit the water!
hey man, umina is sweet in se to s, it gets flat between the swell, its good, the only real hurdle from a slalom point of view is how big the swell gets,, canton still works in a se, ha, ive noticed guys from brisbane waters still come to canton when its southerly, just come to canton, water level is lower, whatever,,, happy easter to the family .....and to you as well big fella, try not to break another record for eggs and balls consumed in one day!!!!
Hi Michael,
I usually sail Umina Beach/Ocean Beach when it's a Southerly. When it goes SW or West, I head up to Canton for some flat water. Boys up there a super friendly.
Gotta watch the tides at Umina. Low tide has a few large sand bars to watch out for, while high tide is usually pretty bumpy and messy. It is wave sailing territory, but the water between the waves is fairly flat, it's just the waves can be anything from 1m-2.5m high. Usually can negotiate around the sand bars if you keep a lookout. Mid tide is my preferred time.
Launch from the Eastern end where the kiters go from, which is near the channel end of the beach. There should be a few of us boarders out this weekend. Usually get on with kiters, but try to stay upwind of them.
If you want to investigate Toowoon Bay up the coast a bit, it works well in a Southerly as well. Parking however can be a problem. It is waves.
Good luck.
Thanks Boys,
I'll throw the gear on the car and if the swells not to big ill give it a crack. Otherwise up to Canton where as always miller, i'll whoop your arse!!!
Although milsey, if you want to try some ocean sailing. Head to Umina, bring mick and the boys. Could be something different for us.
Cheersnbeers gents

yeah im keen for umina, mick reckons u can fly between the swell, plus on days under 25kts it probably gets better wind, its either early friday or sunday, let me know, ill be keen,,,,,,,,im going to bot tommorrow if your keen, personally havent sailed it for about two years so im stoked to get there
Milsey, that wasn't an invite!! Hehe
The forecast is looking crap, and not wanting to take the 131 isonic in the surf due to its width ill probably Leave the gear at home and take the extra kayak instead. If it was 25 kts I'd be there as I could use the 101 but it's not looking likely.
Seabreeze u have 2 hrs to change the forecast and I'll pack the kit
hey tiny, yeah, forecast looks average, if you make it up, you'd definately learn a lot,,,, Happy Easter to you and the your magnificent family,, c ya soon
Ok. Ive got the 7.6 and 101 isonic on the roof. If its good, great! If its ****, bring me a floater milsey!!
Happy Easter to u and lyds.
