Don't know about Makani but I just bought 2 Maui Ultra fins in G10 which you can google. They arrived from Maui within a few days & not too expensive. A carbon fin would be lighter of course but they can be very fragile whereas the G10 is quite tough. They both seem good so far.
The 28 weed slalom is quite powerful & drops even the Canton weed but be careful as the rake gets lower as they get bigger. I have used it with 6.6 & 7.6m & I think it may be OK with 8.5 but haven't tried it yet. The 24 Speed weed is surprisingly good for such a small fin, I have used it OK with 6.6 & 7.6 but a bigger one would be nice so as to give a bit more directional stability. The Speed weed is 45 degrees & a thinner profile. Hope that helps, maybe we will see you at Canton.

i looked at the maui ultra's as well as the select weeds.
u use a 28 up to a 7.6 hmmm,
was thinking 28 & 24 would cover sails from 4.7 to 6.5.
makani's getting some good reviews.
Time to choose.
