getting windsurfer to the airport.

Any one know a good taxi service that can carry 2 people and a windsurfer to the airport.
Also what happens when you rock up at a taxi line carring a windsurfer on the return trip.
Is it worth driving in and leaving car in a long term park for 2 weeks while away.

Hi Craig, I know someone that lives around the corner that could probably drop you off, but I suspect they are going to the same destination around the same time

We have used a maxi-taxi to get gear to the airport and they generally have no problems. They are more expensive than regular taxis though.

The best thing that I have done when it was just me going to the airport was to drive to the airport, check in the gear, and then return the car home, and then catch a taxi or train back to the airport ready for your flight. Please note that the airport opens at 5am, and there are hardly any people there at that time, which makes for a great time to check in oversized luggage. It just makes for a slightly longer day.

For the return trip I have had a friend ask for a maxi-taxi at the queue and they get the next maxi-taxi available, or my friend has booked the maxi-taxi in advance. They generally work to a lot of scheduled bookings, so this is normal for them to take bookings.

One other thing I have tried, because of the fare down our way, is that I have rented a station wagon from the airport for one day only, and returned it the next day and then caught the train to work. This could work the other way as well, i.e. rent it the night before and return it the next day. The prices for this are not too bad, and a falcon wagon easily fits most stuff in.

I used to leave my car at long term parking when they capped the charge at 7 days. They no longer do this.

The other problem with the long term parking was that you had problems getting the sails/boards on the bus to the terminal when they are packed. For me this happened at about 11pm once when the shifts at a terminal changed, and I couldn't get back to the car park for an hour or so. I guess if there are two of you, you could drop the gear off yourself and then park the car, and then the reverse when you come back. Of course, the thing to remember is that it is easier checking in gear when there are two of you.

I guess another option is the long term cark parks that are in Rockdale and Woli Creek. I guess you could leave your car there cheaper than at the airport, as long as they have a shuttle back and forth.

I can second that taxis are a bad option if you have more than one bag. ie a board bag plug quiver bag. I usually drive to the airport... drop the bags... go home park the car and catch a cab in.

On the way back I usually grab a ute from EuropCar which can be as cheap as $60 for a day... then drop the car at Central station once you got your gear home.

I have heard of people having some luck with Lime Taxis but apparently they are not allowed to pick you up from the airport.

we will be up in lancelin for 5 days for the LOC (first weekend in Jan). may go to cervanties / geralton before that for a couple days to look around. depends on what we do for NYE. or could wander down to safety bay and pay you guys a visit. :)
