In the early stages of organising a stag party and was considering an easy location, not far from Sydney. The usual sorts of places have been done on all the previous stags (Gold Coast, Brisbane, Newcastle, Melbourne) so was wondering about the 'Gong! What's it like on Friday and Saturday - are there good bars/clubs and a few after hours places 
?
Was looking at Thredbo - but it'll be $1k for three days!
Any ideas gratefully recieved!
North gong pub is always a good spot to go on a friday or saturday night.
Hotel illawarra used to be pretty good but these days its getting over run by 18 - 20 year olds that just want to carry on like pork chops. The Harp hotel will usually have a live band on Firday nights but it gets pretty crowded. But Towradgie beach hotel is usually pretty good for live bands on a Saturday night.
A pub crawl is the only respectable option. Start at Scarborough Hotel for lunch, then work your way down via:
* Beaches pub at Thirroul
* Heritage Hotel at Bulli (also good bands)
* Towradgi Beach Hotel
* North Gong pub
then either keep heading south to Shellys or stay in town and stumble around between Harp, Glasshouse or the Grand (formally Cooney's).
No worrys, anytime....!
I have to agree with qwerty on the pub crawl.. They are all good pubs..
Except i wouldn't bother goning to the glass house as it is closed down at the moment. If i had to pick one to stay at, i would go North gong pub!

I think the glassy is in receivership at the moment.. Its been closed down for a while now..
But i think they are trying to buy it back or something???

Although all of your suggestion was welcomed - it looks like we're off to the snow (or should I say mud?).
Wollongong will wait until a lads trip south!
