Does anyone know what the current position is?
I spoke to a hunter water corp ranger who said he believed it was currently under review but that possibly no windsurfing at the moment or if so only at certain times of day and year when aquatic centre is open and only at the aquatic club.
There is dinghy sailing and kayaks allowed and electric powered boats but no petrol boats apparently.
He suggested the association should quickly get into contact with:
Hunter Water Corp (1300 657 657),
Port Stephens Council (0249 800 255), and the
Aquatic Centre (0249 829 011)
to enter negotitions before any decisions are made. Is there someone from the nsw association who can follow this up for all us windsurfers?
Being a freshwater dam (water for human consumption) there may be restrictions for usage based on amount of body contact with water.
Potentially a good place to sail, a place we should still have access to. I remember racing one designs there in the 80's, a bit different ( less flotation) but good in westerlies from memory.
hope you can help
I don't know what the current situation is but it would be good to be able to sail there. I sailed there once in the 90s from the aquatic centre and it had good winds in a southerly I think. If I recall correctly the water in the dam is quite high compared to the countryside around so the wind was quite steady. I imagine it would be a great place to windsurf in a westerly.
would be a sweet spot for sure, i noticed on the activities sign at the aquatic centre there it has a small picture of a windsurfer on it, if it was allowed i would sail there for sure, like said in the previous quote it is high compared to the land around it, and always full of water!
