No equipment hire as far as I know...
As for windsurfing spots there are plenty...Flat Rock Beach just north of Ballina. Wave spot that works in a Southerly wind direction but you can sail the river in Balina if you don't want to go into wavesLennox Head beach. Wave spot, works in NEer
Broken Head. Wave spot, Southerly / NEer I haven't sailed there but when I lived in Byron about 20 years ago a local told me you could sail it. Surfed Broken Head a few times but never seen it with wind. You needed a 4WD back then to get to the Jew Head side of the beach. The Pass. Bump and Jump, Easy entry in a NEer, mainly bump and jump, everytime I sailed there I saw sharks but the always left me alone
There are a few other spots in the area but these are the main ones. Most people sail either The Pass or Lennox Head in a NEer or Flat Rock in a Southerly.

South side of flat rock is sick in a north Easter too, cross off and nice powerful waves. Watch out for the locals in that area though. They're big and have sharp teeth.
