Just wondering if anyone has windsurfed Pipers Bay at Forster? I know most of the local crew head to Tiona etc, but is it posible (worth it?) to rig up and have a sail at Pipers Bay- reasoning if you were already staying there at Lakeside Resort?
Cheers for any info.
Hi Phil, I've not heard of anyone sailing from Pipers Bay. I've lived up here for 10 years, but I'd imagine that if you were prepared to find access at the lakes edge and were prepared to walk out through the mud/sand shoreline to deeper water then you probably could. It all depends on what wind direction. It doesn't look good in a NE It's straight offshore.Southerly looks no better, maybe westerly?
You'd do better to try elsewhere. Great Lakes Sailing club on the Lakesway works on most directions and is a nicer launch, with plenty of shade and facilities of the Booti Nat. park. You can sail in front of the bridge at Tuncurry on the south/Tuncurry side at the boat ramp.Works on Sth and Nth winds. They are short runs and you have to watch the boats and out-going tide, which can take you out under the bridge in about 4knots of current if you get caught in the water too long.
Hope this helps,Gabe
Thanks Gabe,
Yeah, I was really only thinking of it as an "on-site" sailing spot if I happen to be at the Lakeside Resort. Otherwise I'd be straight down to Pac Palms or the Sailing club access where most the locals seem to hit.
Cheers mate.
