Are any windsurfers, kiters or sailors on board who are living next to lake Jindabyne?
I went to Perisher 3x for hiking and skiing and saw this beautiful lake and also the alpine sailing club. I'm wondering if it is possible to go windsurfing there and if yes from which side it would be possible to launch respectively if there is a little windsurfing community at all.

Jason (JH2703) from the Canberra windsurfing club(I'm sure you know him from LBG)is now working and living in Jindy. He went out a few weeks ago and said its way too cold,even in summer that lake is freezing.But its probably like your average Austrian lake but.
Jason has been going to Sanctuary point and LBG as he tried Jindy and it was way too cold for him(and he doesn't even feel the cold)
In summer it can be great sailing,the wind is of coarse gusty,but it can get very strong with huge chop(logo high).It seems to be very hit and miss,the wind can turn on very quickly,change directions by 90degrees or turn off.
Most people sail from the town or Thredbo turnoff,but the wind is far better quality downwind at east Jindy(before you get to Jindy)
In strong winds only recommended for strong sailors-you would be fine,but do wait till summer

I thought to drive down there if the wind forecast says strong wind for that area instead of driving to sanctuary point which takes for approx. 250 km quite a long time and driving to jindabyne would be faster and quicker to reach for one day sailing sessions.
also of interest for me - if there is no wind - for kayaking, mountainbiking or hiking. ;-)
Any ideas which conditions are needed that it works well (wind directions or special circumstances)? I assume the best website to look up might be www.bom.gov.au because windfinder.com doesn't even show the lake.

I have now been in Jindabyne for the whole snow season and have watched the lake everyday, the wind really does belt in there and i'm now just waiting for it to get warm enough sail. I don't think it will be much longer, the local water skiers will be out on the water from the October long weekend. As from where to launch it would depend on the wind direction but you can get in from a lot of different locations around the lake...I'll look around over the next few weeks and will let you know what I find. I sailed when I first go here and as Akim said It was freezing, I sailed LBG year round last year and had no problems, but the first time I went in here it took my breath away, my feet were soon frozen and I couldn't get out quick enough. The wind was strong, I was on a 5.0 and overpowered and the wind chop was at least waist high, this place is going to be fun in summer time. That said I'll still go back to sail LBG with the guys and girls from the Canberra windsurfers club and travel to Sanctuary point and Gerroa as they are the best spots i've been on the east coast.

How do you keep the board on the water in Logo high chop..? I have hassles in 2 - 3'..
Luise, Just to let you know that the water temp is now good in Jindabyne. I sailed this morning in my 3.2 wettie and I was quite warm at times and I kept getting in to cool off.
The 2 spots that look good to launch from are "The Clay Pits", Where I went from today which works well in westerly winds and "The Yacht Club" which will work for winds from the east. I'm sure there are more to be found but both these have easy access to the water and safe places to launch.
When I get some good wind I'll let you know how it really goes, I'll be back in canberra on saturday for a sail, It looks as if there is a good westerly coming through...Hope to catch up with some of you guys then.
