Anyone have a look at the forecast for next Saturday? Looks like Windang could be massive by mid afternoon... even the tide timing seems perfect.

Anyone going?

mmh a 12 noon low tide of .28 - The sand bar at Sandringham is gonna be nicely exposed for all the speedsters

Btw how does a super low tide affect gerroa / windang - i found it annoying as hell having to walk so far out to not wreck the fin - or is it the incoming tide that makes it good?

Cheers

The problem found with Windang the last couple of times (anyone please chime if you think differently) was that on a high tide it's need a giant swell to really start breaking. Even then it breaks really close to the break wall.

On a low to rising tide on the other hand the water is pushing in allowing for both Windang island and the bank in front of the lake outlet to really start working nicely.

Just make sure you stay away from the inside right next to the break wall as it can get a bit shallow. The last couple of times though there was a nice rip running out about 50 meters North from it that created a bit of a channel which made it possible to sail straight from the beach.

Another option would be to launch on the south side of the wave break. You'd have to park on the Warrilla side though and carry you gear for a bit. The advantage is that it's flat water. So no nasty shore break to fight. Albeit a bit more gusty due to the closeness to Windang Island.

Starting to sound a bit crowded, maybe we can all bring friends to swim in the shorebreak for a full wanda simulation.

You need to get used to them, you'll see them everywhere after you've been eliminated from your little world cup.

well... I am guessing if the forecast turns out as predicted most people will be standing on the shoreline s**tting their pants anyway.

despite people bitching about crowds before hand it was hardly what I'd call crowded.

The French Connection seemed to be getting the most out of the conditions as they stayed right until the end.

Plenty of wind early afternoon (I was told, as I missed that one) and then again late afternoon. Waves got to a pretty decent size around 4pm as well. Seen people on a lot of over mast high munchers on the way out.

All up good fun.

Surfers that have been surfing there for last 50 years might think different.

Fair enough... but given that the most I counted that day were:

1 Surfer
7 Windsurfers

That's hardly a crowd...
... in the end most of the waves went un-surfed.
