8 am and the wind is already starting to fill in around sydney.
Might be a good day to go for a distance PB - pity my GPS has died
Craig
by 3pm...long reef should be 15-20 knots, airport & wanda 20-25+, wollongong ?? (4.5m-5.0m) and gerroa 4.0m for the skinny blokes. get out there!
ok, I was optimistic! longy just will be good for a kite and most other places will be windy enough for a sailboard
as im too lazy to drive south ill still head to longy...who knows stars might align and it might get windy!
Corrimal, where it's at ^_^ Was sketchy for a while, went north and died for an hour or so around 1pm but by 2pm it was a solid 25kts gusting more. Struggled bigtime holding down the 5.2 (broke mast Wed so couldn't rig 4.7) but it was awesome....until I broke my boom. I'm having a bad week ![]()

chris, you're having a poor week but at least you are sailing. northern beaches only 10-15 knots today, wanda looked 20 knots (on cam) with a few out. I think north of Sydney was at least 20 knots as well!
I reckon on average that the Wollongong area has been more consistent than the famous Gerroa for NE so far this summer. What do you think.
I had a sail at Towradgi a few weeks ago. 20 knot + NE, off the pool. Pretty good. There were a few kites south and north (at Corrimal) but no other windsurfers. Have you sailed there or do you usually go to E Corrimal or Gerroa. How is Sandon Point, do you sail there in a NE?
Thanks CJW.
I could see W'surfers out at Sandon from Bulli Pass and heard it was sailable.
I agree a bit of a weird summer so far with NE. Even the usually reliable seabreeze forecast has missed some of the intensity but of course there are many variables.
I'm sure La Nina or whatever oscillation is high is having an impact.
Maybe some sunny days will have that Nowra basin doing it's thing.
Coal Point Lake Macquarie
Mon 10-15kt NE( I sailed ) - Tues ? 25kts NE - Wed 20 -25kts NE( got out ) - Thurs 25-30kt NE- Fri 20 -25kt NE ( got out ) ![]()

No wonder sailors in Wa + Maui get so good..even my gybes were improving after 2 days with similar decent wind!
Sue, you are right there. Some regular sailing in consistent conditions translates into noticable improvements.
In WA or Maui 3-4 hours per day works out to be about 6 months sailing!
Hey, winter was great. Only problem is that everyone these days seems to be a fair weather sailor only going out then it's 30+ degrees and sunny.
Had some great sails during July and August with big waves.
Re food... Sea haven Cafe in Gerroa changed hands in December. They now have better food and more reasonable prices. Well worth a visit.
Re the reports ... Well I look at it along the lines of it's my bit for the environment. Just think of the number of pointless trips down from Sydney and hundreds of liters of petrol and carbon pollution people must have saved this summer.
All sarcasm aside, everyone knows about Gerroa, if you don't you've been living in a bubble so in terms of these reports 'oh noes overcrowding our local spot !@11one' it ain't going to happen, imo. If someone really wants to do some good they should try and instigate a ban on surf schools from all but the very north 200m of the beach ^_^ I've lost count of the number of times i'm on a sweet wave that takes me towards 'their area' and 4 kooks on foam mals drop in....painful ![]()
On a side note I reckon late today it might work down there, won't be strong but it might kick in at around 15kts NE? Not sure on what swell is left down there though, looks a bit too NE.
The only thing the sludger is responsible for is the great illawara doughnut famine of '10. Other than that he's doing a good job, if only for the swell observations (the crucial factor for gerroa). As far as him being opinionated he sure ain't the only person guilty of that on this forum.
Ps please remove red thumbs from your ass and stick them in the above little box, thank you![]()
