Howdy. Is anyone sailing in the area tomorrow or thursday? Is there anything nearby that can be sailed on a southerly?
Cheers ![]()
Hi Justin - long way from home!!! Phil SWR (not fast Phil!) sails down there and reckons Trial Bay works in northerlies and southerlies - I will pm his phone number in case he's around and you want to sms him - he's a top guy and knows the area well
Happy New Year
After having chased him at his home playground , I reckon SWR stands for Sick Wicked Rider.
May have to come up to Flat top Haircut
Hi Dave, thanks for that. We're going around down nsw for a week or so.
Happy new year to you too!
We had lunch in McLean yesterday and left just before the mini tornado storm thingy was hitting the town
Heading south from where you are? Woolgoolga Back beach, past the treatment works - just look for the kites floating above the trees , I think it could be on right now .. Lucky you
Hey Mr Haircut- sorry, I just spotted your post tonight ![]()
As you may have noticed, southerlies are horrible here- gusty, offshore. There's one spot in the river that's tolerable, but certainly not good- in a south wind anyway.
Bright side is- nor-easer due Sat and Sun- and I think Mon. Good low tide late too, so happy days coming up.
Should be right to join ya for a blast. Give me a yell.
Hotbodmon, you're a cunny funt
You know I'm a gumby. Hope to catch up with you soon Ben ![]()
We didn't stay, instead drove to port Macquarie and sailed settlement point, but was gusty
Then had a look at harrington. What an awesome llooking spot, but how do you access the sandbar and waves without walking down the breakwall?
We're now at hawk's nest. Trying to decide whether to sail here at jimmys beach or head up to wallis lake? Any suggestions?
We'll probably head back to south west rocks for next set of ne winds.

We usually sail Harrington in a dead southerly for the longest runs in the flat water against the sand bank, but I have also done it twice in a NE as well.
Access: Rig gear on the grass beside the Air/Sea Rescue building. You will find some totem poles near the rock wall to the right of the building as you look out to sea, walk over to them and look over the rock wall and you will see a rocky but flatter bottom and shallow water. VERY carefully climb down the wall with your board and place your board upside-down on the rocks at the bottom, and now even more carefully climb down the wall and fly your sail all the way down as you make the decent. Connect together on the flatish rock spot at the bottom and tack out to the sand bar and start the fun. Need booties to avoid oyster cuts if you enter and exit this way. If you hate sailing in boots like me, when you get to the sand bar, take them off and throw them on the sand bar, then put them back on before you come in.
Some have walked all the way down the wall with all their gear and rigged on the sandbar where the bar meets the rocks. Far too much walking for me, and rigging on sand in a stiff breeze is no good...... to quote Anakin: "I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere".....
Glenn Bolton posted a vid on SB of Mark and I sailing there a few years ago in about a 20kn southerly. I have reposted it below so you can get a feel for how close you can sail to the bank and how smooth the water is on a southerly. On a NE you sail on the south western side of the same sand bank, and from that bank you can also sail out into the river mouth to the waves if you like. Take care, the current does move very quick on the run out tide as it squeezes it's way out.
Crowdy Bay is also fun (about 10 more minutes drive to the coast from Harrington). A NE is dead onshore, which is great fun on a fast waveboard or freestyle board hitting the steep shore break at pace.
Thanks a lot AJ. That was just the Info I was looking for.
Sailed winda woppa yesterday. Plenty of wind which was nice. Will try wallis today
Looking pretty light for tomoz. It's a good direction, and may bump up a little mid late arvo. Best bet is probably the river at Jersey. Has a funnel effect there in n/e wind. 8-12 knots at the Jail usually means 12-15 on the river. If there's enough wind I'll be there. Will sms you tomorrow sometime. Anyway, here's the spot in a 15-18 knots nor easter.
