Hi All,
I have not sailed Wallis lake in years, but will be there next week. Wind forecast is not looking great, but fingers crossed!!
Since updating my board I changed fin base and do not have a weed fin. I have not needed one before now, but can anyone advise if I should try and get a weed fin before going? Otherwise I will be sailing freeride style fairly upright fins. Just trying to avoid frustration if the wind turns good and I have to jump off my board every 100m to clear the fin!!
Also, is there anywhere I can take off where I can avoid the parking cost at the sailing club? I don;t mind paying when I use facilities, but when I just park a car there and spend the day out on the lake, I prefer to avoid it.
Cheers,
Adrian
Adrian, Wallis Lake is part of the Myall Lakes National Park, managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Services and by sailing on the lake, you are using the facilities! If you don't want to put money in the parking metre, buy a NPWS permit? The office is at Pacific Palms. And yep, you'll need a weed fin![]()
Thanks Ads72.
I just thought I was paying for parking... I mean I can walk into the lake from parking on the road and not have to pay anything right?? I assumed the parking payed for upkeep on ammenities at the site like toilets, BBQs, grass mowing etc.
Can anyone suggest somewhere I can buy a powerbox weed fin that would be equivalent to around 32cm upright freeride fin somewhere on the way between Sydney and Forster? Not sure if there are any windsurfing shops up Forster way or somewhere close to the freeway on the way there. Should have organised something earlier, but not enough time for me to get to Windsurf and Snow... have been spoilt for too long sailing in weedless water!!

Adrian,
The last few times i was at the sailing club (last summer) the parking meter was broken. Even if its working, it doesn't cost a lot.
In terms of shops, Board Crazy at Belmont is the only shop between Syd and Forster - would be about a 45 minute detour around the east side of Lake Mac rather than going up the freeway. Might be worth a call beforehand to see what they have in stock.
If you ask Sam nicely he could probably post/courier you a fin if you can't get to his shop. Or you could buy something online and get it shipped to your holiday house in Forster.
Good luck, its a great spot to sail!
Thanks for the info guys.
I was not trying to devalue the national parks and what they do and the cost of parking... I was just interested if there was another option park somewhere else and not pay... sometimes it is not the cost of the parking that is the issue as much as finding the change to use the meter.
Where is this place Tiona? I have not heard of that.
I should have ordered something from windsurf n snow earlier today... but I am never sure if it will arrive on time coming to weekend, and what to do if it does not and I leave for Forster to have the fin delivered next week when I am not here. I will try to get out to them to pick one up maybe tomorrow if I can find time.
Cheers and thanks for the advice!!

NO, devalue the national parks and what they do and the cost of parking... They are money hungry thieves. $27 to drive into the snowies. What a joke!
Adrian, Check it out on google maps but basically there are two other places both great in a NEster especially. The spot I've cycled off the point there is particulary good. You drive in off the Lakes Way and it's a bit of a fire trail down to this particular spot. The roads not great, but if you take it easy and your not in a Porche, you'll be right! Happy sailing.
Hassle Sam for a fin. He'll send it up for you for sure.
cheers![]()
