Does anyone sail Brooms Head or know of any good spots in that area or best time of year etc? Looking at moving down that way.
Cheers,
Steve
Don't think Brooms is any good but Pippi at Yamba is popular in a NE. PM AJEaster. Or he might reply with the low down...? ![]()
I placed a similar post on 15/4/2012 which you can check - sorry I'm rubbish with the linking.
Have done a Qld driving trip (me driving, kids & wife flying, hence the chance to sail/look everywhere) almost every year for about 8-9 years. Mostly April or Sept/Oct. Haven't sailed Broom's, in theory good in S/SE but I guess not that time of year. Mostly I've had big southerlies or NE in Oct.
Typically I've found Coffs area & Ballina (river or flat top) the most reliable & a few sails at Currumbin.
The two flat tops, Woolgoolga & Skennar's at Ballina are hard to beat as can be sailed in both S/SE & NE and hold big swell. Had Skennar's 8am one morning in a 20K NE, no one else out of course.
.
Always got a surfboard as back up!
I think brooms probably isn't worth wavesailing as it just doesn't hold a nice wave. used to camp there almost every christmas, its the type of place that you swim a tractor tyre out into the surf and jump off.
Pippi beach in yamba has a few regulars and some friendly kiters there in NE'ers.... Apparently in SE'ers you can sail down angourie or if you have a fourby just drive down pippi beach till you get to a headland... never tried it thou....
