What sail sizes do you most commonly use around Sydney?

I'm planning an update of my sails but not quite sure what sizes to go for. I used to go for sail overload with one for almost any wind at all. Now I just have one board and tend to stick to B Bay or the lake so not so much range needed.

I'm thinking something along the lines of a 7.2, 6.2 and 5.4ish but interested to know what others use. At the moment just using them on one 120ltr board but likely to get something a bit smaller at some stage.

Any thoughts?

10.7 & 7.0 covers me for most of sydneys wind.
If i was sticking to a slalom board i'd definately have an 8.0 in my kit.
Seems to be a lit of light wind this summer

I use 9.8 and 6.2 as my most used sails. Used the 9.8 about 25 times last year and the 6.2 about 8 times. Big board and big sail is a must for Sydney. Doesn't necessarily need to be a formula board but something that will get you planing in under 15 knots.

Bigger sails have a good range. I use my 7.8 (cammed) the most then 6.2 (RAF). Then when it's windy it seems to get really windy so around 5 is good

Something around 7.8 - 6.2 - 5.2 would be a good range IMO

I weight about 85kgs.

I'm starting to see why I don't get out as much as some others with a current biggest sail of 6.9 - although I'm not a big fan of huge heavy sails.

7.8, 6.2, 5.2 give or take .2 or .3 looks like it might be about right. Any recommendations on super like 7.5 - 7.8 sails?

Confused, i reckon you got the right idea, im 90kg and got 7.5, 6.6, and 5.3 and dont feel the need for any extra sails... plus makes picking the right sail eeeasy

There are a lot of good big sails out there that are light to use and have a great range. eg. I use a NP RS Slalom 7.8 (3 cam sail), I use this sail 12-20 knots and I've even held on to it gusts of 25. It's light in the hands and reasonably user friendly. But you want to avoid a full on race sail like an RS Racing, they do feel heavy and aren't worth the extra effort unless you want the last ounce of performance.

Most brands have a 2-3 cam free race or free ride model, but your existing mast may dicatate your choice.

I'd put in a vote for a Mauisails Titan - I have the 7.5 and its my favourite sail. Two cams but feels very light and maneouverable. The 2010 7.5 weighs 5.1 kg, while the current model is slightly (300g) heavier due to the new wider luff sleeve.

For my quiver it sits nicely between a 9.0 and a 6.5.

Cheers
James

Thanks for replies.

I'm thinking I'll go for something around 7.5, 6.4 and 5.6. Doesn't seem to be much point in anything smaller unless I get a smaller board. Not sure whether I'll go for a cam sail, I've only sailed a few but I didn't find them that much fun to sail.

Now just need to sell my current sails and go for a shopping trip
