So watching the graphs,
Kurnell is the standout,
How are the tides there,
Does it matter if going in or out?

Can I sail the in Harbour,
Do the cops say no way?
In a North to Nor-easter,
Rose Bay looks OK.

Long Reef in a SE,
I've heard it for sure,
It might just become,
My first cross-offshore.

Firstly the spot guide here check: nswwavesailing.org/spot-guide/

RE sailing in the harbour. Not my thing personally but other people seems to not mind it. Botany Bay definitely get's the strongest North Easters. The spot just near the run way at Kyeemah is actually a bit windier than Kurnell. It's just that there is no wind meter.

If you want waves Wanda is the only reliable spot in Sydney in North Easter. Long Reef, Makaha, Newport are good in a Southerly. Which spot works best always depends on swell and wind direction.

So what happened by the way?
Did you get out on the water on this day?

Was at botany bay, 20ish people on the water. Quite a nice summer preview.

Seemed like someone went through his sail though.... I saw a blue NP (2011 or 2012) with a destroyed panel...

Oh, and the jet skies are back...

Are you kidding me? have you really sailed across from the airport to kurnell ever?

Kurnell is ALWAYs 5 knots stronger than the airport. The runway in comparison to kurnell is patchy as hell and has huge issues with a strong wind band running thru the middle with huge holes on either side (just where you want it most to gybe)

Airport doesnt get consistant until its absolutely nuking at kurnell.

The main downside to kurnell is its a lot more chop and you have to deal with kiters.

Evil One

for location, gps tracks & photos have a look at:

gpsteamchallenge.com.au/sailor_session/show?date=2012-09-16&team=5

This is where you should have been yesterday.

Come on down the next nor-easter & introduce yourself.

Cook Park - turn in 50m south of CCooks River bridge.
Bring beer

There still seems to be some deliberation,
And a sailor obsessed with masturbation,
Kurnell or the Airport, one's closer for me,
But for wind and chop Kurnell might be worth it, we'll see.

I've ordered some sails, they are on the way
And should be here around my birthday (hint: [}:)]),
So all I can do is wait for now,
It'll be a good season, I can feel it somehow.

(And yes, i'll surely bring some beer,
I need to launch this brand new gear)

PS I might join your GPS team challenge next year. This Summer is forward loop time. This year for sure.

If you want chop you might also want to try out Dolls Point in a North Easter. You will have to share the place with kite boarders but the wind has a longer run to build up some ramps.

The driving is the biggest problem for Kurnell. Especially given Wanda is on the way.

One thing I forgot to mention about North Easters. As a general rule Wanda tends to be best early to mid afternoon. While Botany Bay seems better mid to late afternoon. In summer the wind usually turns further North around 4:30 - 5pm ish. On a high tide that means it's pretty gusty on the inside at Wanda. Some of the Botany Bay spots on the other hand can get anther kick in wind speed around that time.

@CaptainHadoc...Yep that was me! the big guy with the long face! Board lifted up in a gust and got slammed thru the sail - off to see Baracota tomorrow for some new panels.
Other than that, great day out

One of our guys put his harness hook through one of the club's sail (we were the bunch with the trailer), but the crack was just the size of a fist. Looking at yours sure reduced how bad he felt...

Lake Narrabeen can be just a bore
Being so short and gusty
I wish some days I'd cross the city
