Hi everyone,

Storm-Riders as you may know is a group of enthusiastic windsurfers based in the Botany Bay area. Whilst the club has been traditionally known as the organiser of the "NSW Windsurfing series", in the 2011/12 season we will be also running a series of informal social fun training days down at Kyeemagh for the wider NSW windsurfing community.

To take part, all you need to do is turn up! Everyone is welcome even if you are not a Storm Riders Club member. We will set up a buoy an run figure 8 slalom with beach starts and handicaps for the faster sailors. Focus will be on having fun not competing and winning.

Event Date: 18th September (More dates to be announced)
Location: Kyeemagh North Carpark
Time: From 1pm
Organiser: David Flanagan (0424 750 501)

Look forward to seeing all of you down at the beach for a fun afternoon.

Hi everyone. With the southerly predicted and considering parking at Kyeemagh we are changing the location to Ramsgate for the ample parking and rigging area. (wont have to dodge barbecues)

Thanks for coming down guys. It was good to meet everyone. Bring on summer for better seabreezes and racing.

Yes the ankle is pretty sore. Hard to walk this morning. :(

Well we certainly had an interesting training day. 25-30knots SE winds.
Things we learnt:

-Kyeemagh is becoming impossible to organize a sail with a mate, so 40+ windsurfers is almost impossible now.
I tried to count the amount of people on the grass area next to the cafe and gave up at 400. Summer is going to be very testing.
Somehow we need to find a way to claim this area back as it is the best flat water location in Sydney.

-Ramsgate was certainly easier, with lots of parking and easy launching, but the quality of the wind and larger waves need to be taken into account.

-Have a back up sail rigged as the wind dropped from 30 to 20knots after we started racing and you need to be able to change quickly or risk missing your race.

-Generally speaking, use a slightly bigger board and or sail than you would usually use as it helps a lot when starting and coming our of a jibe. A little bit of extra flotation also helps.

-Remember to bring a drink and food, as for some reason you need more than you do on a recreational session.

-This is going to be a lot of fun and very interesting to see how all the new faces enjoy the slightly different day at the beach.
