Marty, try nail polish remover - the non-acetone one seems to work best. Just be careful not to sniff it.
Citrus goo remover, forget name. Available from Bunnings cleaning section.
Rub for a while to give it time to soften residue glue.
Try 'Double D Eucalyptus oil'. It removes hydraulic oil, gum adhesive
and solvent stains readily. Disclaimer: I've never used it on sails.
