Anyone sailed Smiths Lake lately? Going there next weekend. Is it ok in a noreaster? Where do you launch, from the caravan park?
Are there any shallow spots to watch out for?

HI ralph9,

I assume it is Sandbar caravan park your staying at.

The lake at smiths lake is full so sailing across the shallow sand to the sandbar is ideal now probable waist deep and more all the way so you will have a top time.
Sailing in the noreaster is possible if it is constant at 15knots on a 7.8sail and no lulls however if you get southerly it will be a blast.
Have a good time.

Kind Regards
Walt

All good to go Ralph9. As Walt said, full & no weed, Smiths is ideal at the moment. NEsters pretty good, although the north hill does cause the wind to be a tad flukey on the lake, depending on the angle. Wallis Lake is worth the drive in a NEster. Launch from the cafe and ask the locals about the secret spot near there too. Happy sailing

I'll be there from the 28th onwards. Be glad to have a sail with someone, normally I'm about the only person using the lake during Jan.
