I know I know, I shouldn't be talking about it but Saturday looks like it could deliver a decent Westerly. Rather than gusty old Narrabeen I was thinking about a recce up to Swansea and Lake Macquarie. Anyone keen?

You should definately give the back of Swansea Caravan Park a go. If its on you will like.

Or off the point at Belmont caravan park..just keep out as its shallow closer in but its only mud.One of the most consistent W areas on the lake..There will be plenty of kiters but youll be out further & theyre ok.

Here are some photos at the Swansea Channels taken last year.

It looks good. I did not sail as I was recovering from surgery. A spot I was down on, Canton Beach, I sailed a couple of months ago. It was good. Little chop, consistent wind. Tons better than Narrabeen Lake.

Edit: Original typed out on an ipad which is something no one will ever claim to be easy to type on.

Rose Bay is going to work in that direction. Because the wind comes all the way down the harbour it is not as gusty as Narrabeen where it has to go over that hill. If it swings more south it is easy to get to LaPerouse.

Where can you park for free at Rose Bay?

In the car park between the sailing club and the tennis courts.

If anyone is still thinking of coming up North, if the wind stays up in the afternoon we may try some Slalom Racing off the point at Marmong
or from Warners Bay (off The Esplanade to the west of the shopping area).

Otherwise we will be racing Formula, starting from the Sailing Club.

We usually try to start around 1:30pm. Look forward to seeing a few people there.

Lets hope it doesnt fizzle out too quickly Saturday!

cheers
James

Razor Shells are apparently tasty. Perhaps they are similar to scallops. There is a bit of a scare with them in Lake Mac as apparently bream feed on them but there is a shortage of bream due to environmental factors.

I took those shots from the carpark at the back of the caravan park. You drive along the main street of Swansea (the old highway) and then turn left just before the bridge. Follow the road along the channel and eventually you see signs for the caravan park. Keep following the signs and then drive past the caravan park to the lake. On that day it was a solid 25 knots or more of westerly wind. The same day it was the usual gusty westerly at Narrabeen.

People say you have to be careful there as there are many sand bars.

WITH ALL THIS IN MIND AND THE PROSPECT OF RAZOR SHELLS AND THE COLD .. WE DECIDED TO HEAD BACK TO THE LAKE FOR A GREAT SAIL .
IT DID LOOK SUPER FLAT IN PLACES JUST A BIT SCARY AT THE PROSPECT OF HITTING SAND BARS @30+ NOT MY IDEA OF FUN ..

THE CAR PARK I HAVE MARKED IS THIS THE RIGHT ONE OR DO U SAIL IN THE RIVER MOUTH ALSO HEADED TO THE AIRPORT BUT AGAIN DID NOT LOOK GREAT
