Looks like there might be enough wind to try out my NP helium on sunday morning. Where should I be heading around the Sydney area for some flat water light wind action? Is Pittwater Bay any good? Balmoral? Or should I be heading down to the airport? Or somewhere else entirely?
Any tips appreciated!
Thanks.
Pittwater at Palm Beach is good on a NW wind too. However the tides are important as at low tide its a long walk through mud and seaweed to get out to deeper water. High tide in the middle of the day so it could be okay.
So looks like tides are low tomorrow and sunday midday-ish. That looks like it makes Pittwater a no go so I'd thought about heading down around the airport, will that work at low tide?
Any tips on that area and where to launch or anywhere else that will work at low tide much appreciated!
thank you!
In a NE you can launch from pretty much anywhere from the airport down to dolls point. That being said the northern half is pretty much closed off atm due to the desalination pipeline laying and there is a big M$%#$^% barge sitting in the middle of the area creating amassive wind hole.
The easiest access to water is at ramsgate beach which has a pretty sharp drop off into deeper water making it easy regardless of tide. A lot of the Formula sailors launch from here since they use huge fins. Looking at the conditions i wont be surprise if a bunch of them turn up on the weekend. (its also far enuf south to not be affected by the barge)
Kurnell is great in a NE but if you coming from north side its a much longer drive. In lower tides you have to walk out thru a bit of sludge to get to the deeper water. once out tho kurnell has some best winds around.

i agree kurnell is a great spot, having said that i havent tried it in a NE but will do this weekend
Hmmmmmmm...
Looks like it might be Sat & Sun. (Can I get away with that one![]()

Have to pass Ramsgate so will check out on way to Far Kurnell (via Long Reef for a wettie
)
So what happened to the wind today? I know there wasn't much forecast but there was nothing at all!!!! And the forecast for tomorrow seems to have dropped right off too! I need to windsurf!!!!!
Pittwater is only good right up the mouth of the bay at palm beach. up the bay, the conditions get extremely shifty. This is a place where skiff races are started and people are putting spinnakers up before they get to the winward mark. Look at it as tactical windsurfing!!!
