Went out for a short sail today before school pickup. There was a kiting dude out as well, he did a jump and landed a metre or 2 from a shark and scared it. He said the shark dived down and headed south real quick. The kiter dude reported the shark to the surf rescue.
There was heaps of school kids in the water learning to surf. The life guard got everyone out on his jet ski.
Really nice day. i had a big slalom board (patrik135v2) and sail (avanti 8.5 machine m1x). I did a big jump on the way out of the breaking waves not that I wanted to it just happened that way. I stayed out the back sailing down to dee why and up to the headland. near the headland its fun racing over the reefs which you can see through the clear water. the gentle swells make the gybing easy
Great one, really want to do this too. Where did you launch from ?
So I guess you haven't seen the beast again ?
Has anyone seen the shark doco about bullsharks in sydney harbour???
SHARK HARBOUR or something.
I'm surprised we don't see more when out windsurfing.
there are tonnes around.
enjoy and be safe
Hi Stephane, like your avatar! lol
I launched off the main Long Reef Beach near where the lagoon is. I waited for it to go flat and then I sailed out fast but then a wave came. I got to it just before it started to break and got launched. I dont like to jump racing boards. You can also sail from fishermans on the other side of the headland where it is flat.
I never saw the shark, the kiter filled me in.
Hi JB,
I reckon sharks aren't interested in windsurfers, if the sail is in the water it would look pretty big to a shark or if we are going fast I think the shark would stay away. However I did have a shark follow me of Middle Head in the Harbor one day. That freaked me.
Its funny I figure there are tonnes around too but when we see one its everybody out.
I dont like sharks!
I swam for about 2 hours with my gear at Margaret river in January. No wind and blood coming out of my leg. Survived that, just.
Try sailing where I come from years ago Perth a member of Saftey bay sailing club.it was unusual if didn't see a shark on a afternoon blast. You soon learn to be a confidant jiber pretty quick
