What did the doc say? Hope it mends soon so you can get back out.
I almost did the same thing, double backie
with out my gear, straight on the side of the head.
Apparently it is not so bad, the hole is in the middle which heals faster...so 2 to 3 weeks and then a helmet covering my ear for at least 6 months...bummer.
I have to say even today my face hearts more than my ear...it doesn't show in the video but i hit the water hard.
I think there is somenting with back loops with onshore wind that the timing goes off and instead of stalling at the top you just keep going fast and over rotate...at least I did that.

Sorry to read of your injury. I did it twice on the same ear learning pushies. Could have been a case that the covering over your ears from your neoprene hat intensified the blast against your ear drum.
(It's possible to burst ear drums with a slap to the ear, something to do with the concussion of air inside the ear canal)
Do yourself a favour and go and get a good set of swimmers ear plugs (the ones that are shaped to your ears are expensive but well worth it) and you can be back out sailing within days. Fresh saline is also your friend to syringe into your ear (low pressure !!!) after sail if you think they leaked to ensure no salt water is in there causing a potential infection point)
You'll know if the drum is still perforated if you can feel the clean saline fluid trickling into your throat through from your ear (you should have felt this when the doctor examined and cleaned it?)
You will also be able to blow smoke out of your ear if you inhale, pinch your nose and blow as if you were trying to clear your ears !
Great party trick but also increases the risk of ear infection and possible permanent damage to your ear/hearing.
As mentioned I've blown my ear drum twice landing over cooked pushies
My ear healed fully both times and is back to good as new... and that included sailing a day after the second perforation wearing ear plugs. Sadly my pushies on that side are still pretty much crash and burn.
*Your account of increased speed and momentum points to more of a push loop than a back loop (more end over rotation which whips through as opposed to a high controlled stalled arc.)
Get some ear plugs and get back out there
Kev
PS - I tried a helmet after blowing the first ear drum but the noise from the wind through the helmet almost drove me insane so I ditched it. Took me another 12 months and countless pushie attempts till I blew it again. Kooks will be kooks !
Thanks for the advice...where do you get those ear plugs? These are not the kind you shape with your fingers I imagine. I will try the helmet as well, never tried one but maybe it is time to change that.
