Hello slalom sailors.
Patrik, Steve's Surf Shed and SBYC are welcoming racing back next season and rumor has it we're invited to the SBYC Aust. Day Regatta.
I've penciled in some dates that align with my work roster, but if anyone is keen to run an event please feel free to PM me.
I've had a few unofficial offers to help marshal and keep score so hopefully I can get on the water a bit more
Prelim Dates:
Saturdays
Nov 12
Dec 3, 24
Feb 4, 25
Mar 18.
I'm on hols for Jan so can't commit to any racing so if someone wants to organise racing pre or post LOC or any Saturday for that matter I can help.
Isaac is talking up Cervantes as a possible National/State title location. Maybe this can coincide with the Gero crew for an away round.
It's a beautiful spot to sail at so hopefully we can get some traction with that.
Dec 3rd could possibly include the Green Head round.
There'll be some amendments to the scoring next year. Each race for each heat will score points so every race will count.
Sailors will still be "seeded" as the racing goes on to ensure close racing.
It was great seeing almost 50 sailors (48) on the list last year. Lets see if we can't get more next season.
5 Months to go
Bring it on.
That looks like a great series in WA. Adam is still working on putting together our NSW calendar. The slalom states are pencilled in for December, with a few GPS, Formula back at Hawks Nest and also maybe budgie speed event on the plan for the summer.
The WNSW AGM is on 16th August (7pm at The Oaks, Neutral Bay) - it'd be great to see a stack of people there to talk about ideas, put their hands up to help out and lock in some details.
By all means knock yourselves out guys! As James mentions in his post, come along to the AGM in a few weeks to discuss? May I point out however that Slalom is notoriously difficult to run, particularly in NSW & with the limited resource available to us. GPS provides a happy medium compromise that seems to suit most and works well with the prevailing conditions we get in NSW. Byron, James and the Marmong boys pulled off a Slalom Titles last year in Santuary Pt, so I imagine they'll be doing the same again this season. But running a Slalom Series; well that's a whole different kettle of fish. At any rate & I imagine, you'll have to work in with the draft calendar to be tabled in a few weeks time, with a few dates to be shifted around possibly. At the end of the day, there's a stack of sailing there to be had there.
Absolutely Tinlyds, the one lap Free Formula is always on offer as a division. Look forward to seeing you in October.
Never used to be hard !!!
Sounds like Rick is offering to organise slalom.
Yep Katapult and very much looking forward to it. It should be a ripper season with all the action on offer. The Raceboard Worlds, the Wally anniversary regatta in January, the usual NSW Wave Series, a Formula & GPS series and now a Slalom series on top of all that; you couldn't ask for more could you!
Don't forget to drop in and try some west coast racing this summer if your touring.
Would be great to pit state v state. East v West.
