Hi all,
Probably heading out to narrabeen lakes or Kyeemagh today to try my new gear and get some time in learning (im a n00b)
Given the wind direction if I hit the lakes should I launch from the south or the west?
Is anyone heading to either location today? Wouldn't mind sailing where I knew others were going to be.
Narrabeen is good in a westerly not sure about a southerly
Botany bay is not so good in a southerly unless you right around
I think it west at the moment
Considering you have new gear Narrabeen is safer
Launch opposite the sailing club
That where I would drive to first anyway
Botany is a long drive for me
Sweet, I'm think la per too.
Should be ok wsw???
I'm heading down to Narrabean as i probably need calm water.
going to launch from the south at wheeler park. need to pick up a rashey on the way down so will prob be 9:30 when i get there. i know its probably boring for everyone else, but if you come down say hello - Silver Audi A3

At La Pers now doing a breakky recon. It's starting to look good, sun is out and it's beginning to whitecap!
Dougr given this is your fist time out on new gear and you are just starting out, I'd definitely go Narabeen, it will be safer.
However being a SW /W breeze it will be very gusty and challenging, you'll get big bullets of wind that will probably wipe you out, so hang loose. Also some parts of narabeen are quite shallow so take it easy near the shore areas.
I'l be out at La Peroeuse as soon as I get work out of the way..![]()
Went down to narrabeen but was waaay too windy for my skill level.
Will have to see what tomorrow brings...
Thanks to John for taking the time to chat with me about the conditions
Yeah it was pretty windy today. Plus the winds at Narrabeen Lake are not very consistent. Tomorrow the wind looks like it will moderate a bit. If you want more consistent wind and flattish water then consider going up to Canton Beach on the Central Coast.
However its quite weedy there.
Narrabeen turned out to be a good blast today, didn't expect much when I got there but nicely powered up a lot of the time on a 6.1.
But right not to go out as a beginner, as you say, pretty wild out there. Good luck tomorrow, looks far more suitable.
La Perouse in a SW,
Kyeemagh in S, SE, NE
Kurnell in NE, N, NW, W?
Foreshore Drive in W.
That is how I usually decide where to go.
Foreshore D. Salamander Bay ??
I don't know of a foreshore in Sydney...
Sandringham on a NE. Further than Kyeemagh, but not crowded, OK parking.
