Hey all,

Heading down to Newcastle from Brisbane for christmas. Was thinking about taking the gear down and spending a week before or after christmas hitting up some local spots.

I've looked into going past Newcastle or Sydney to check out Gerroa and the likes but thought I would ask the locals their thoughts. What's the wind like this time of year down there?

I'm looking for bump and jump or smaller wave spots.

Accommodation would likely be in the car or at a local campsite.

Thanks in advance, any advice would be awesome!

Cheers, Alec

Hey Alec, if it's blowing 15 plus nor-east, make sure you call into Trial Bay. Arguably the best B&J spot on the East Coast. Give me a yell when your head south, always keen to have a blast around the bay.

If a north east seabreeze is forecast then it's almost certainly 15 - 20+ knots at Gerroa by the afternoon, so it's pretty regular in summer. However the wave sailing is not super consistent as it really needs a south swell to get in the at the Gerroa end of Seven Mile Beach (or a decent easterly swell).
