So, if I wanted to make an assault on the NSW wavesailing title next season what should I be doing over winter ?
Do I need to buy new kit ?
Do I need to just turn up to every event or should I study the form guide, the forecast and conditions, spend all winter sailing and swimming around each event location and play a more tactical game ?
Do I need to exercise so I can sail for more than 4 minutes at a time ?
Do I need to learn to wavesail ?
Does it help to be able to jump ?
Do I need to get on the water more often than 4 times a year ?
Do I need to find a master and become his apprentice ?
Should I start on a special diet now, or leave it a few weeks ?
None of the things you point out are required...
just turn up but make sure you buy the latest and greatest gear. That will guarantee you win the comp... works for Kauli Seadi... he always has brand new gear... usually custom made prototypes.
Maybe it's the prototypes why he is better than most...
Jerry, all you need to do is sign up for the year (best value and year long 3rd party insurance) and then turn up to the events!
They're always good weekends and are as much about catching up with people as competing.
The NSW WA usually has a Demo board & rig to try which can get you on some latest kit. The sponsorship guys are working on it now so we are yet to see what will have this year. Last year we had a Starboard Quad and Serverne Blade 5.3 rig.
First event is September 11th and 12th so plenty of time to get in some training - fitness is the key to sailing a heat hard rather than in a relaxed freesailing session. Its not hard core - more about participating and meeting people with the same interest.
Generally competition is very friendly and lots of experienced folk are on hand to give some advice about what kit to take out.
MA---The NSWWA agm agreed to bid for the Nationals 2011.
Most likely mid to late Feb at Gerroa/Shoalhaven Heads/Windang.
I think Wazza is looking into it.
Looking forward to it if it gets the go-ahead.
Carantoc---Last season we also had 2 demo alphas, booms and masts from Neil Pryde and also a new 80lt Carbon Art waveboard that went to action plus loads of other prizes for all competitors.
