This Sunday (30Oct) will be the first of 4 events this season.
The aim is to provide a fun Slalom environment for both recreational and full on racers.

The wind is expected to be NE in the morning, turning to SE in the afternoon.

The best location to cater for the wind direction will be "Corner of General Holmes Drive and The Grand Parade" (Roughly the south end of Kyeemagh).
www.google.com.au:443/maps?q=The+Grand+Parade,+Monterey,+New+South+Wales&hl=en&ll=-33.957542,151.158158&spn=0.001771,0.002411&sll=-25.335448,135.745076&sspn=60.807285,79.013672&vpsrc=6&hnear=The+Grand+Parade,+Monterey+New+South+Wales+2217&t=h&z=19

Registration will be 10-11.30am. You can pre-register on www.tour.windsurfingnsw.com or pay $20 on the day.

www.Windsurfnsnow.com.au will be providing some light wind equipment just in case it is at the low end of the wind range. We will also have some spare life jackets as they are a NSW requirement.

Remember Car parking is always difficult at this location, so try not to bring trailers.

Should be fun.

But why not Ramsgate? Plenty of parking for those of us with trailers.

See you there.

2 main reasons.
1 - Quality of conditions. Ramsgate is generally lighter and lumpier.
2 - Trying to attract and encourage the large amount of recreational sailors who love this location, and we believe would really enjoy a different experience to the usual sailing.

We are expecting it to be a bit cold and rainy this weekend, which is another reason we have gone for Kyeemagh, as they BBQ crowd who are starting to dominate the car parks should be absent.

Hopefully we can have a successful day and look to improve at subsequent events.

Hey Brett, do we need to register with Stormriders beforehand? Is it a proper affiliated event or another fun one....? If needing to register can we do it online anywhere beforehand rather than on the day?

Hi Rexy,

This one is a proper NSW affiliated event. We are going to be running two divisions. Expert+Slalom Experience for those that have limited racing experience.

Its preferred that you join a NSW club beforehand for the insurance reasons. It can be done beforehand via the Storm-riders site on the membership section. Just need to select the "Club only" option.

http://www.storm-riders.com.au/membership/

Registration fees can also be done via that site for the entire series but you can also pay per event for registration on the day if thats easier or you dont think that you will get to all events.

Hope this helps. Give me a bell if you need any more info. The notice of series is on the tour.windsurfingnsw.com/slalom-tour/ website for more info on racing rules etc.

Cheers
David

Cheers Dave,
Just joined up to the club for now. No point paying for a race if the wind doesn't come to play....

What is the forecast now? It looks around 10 knots! So disappointing!
With my gear I would need more than 15 knots.
I would like to bring a Formula board but that's just not cricket is it. It's not the same thing.

It's good conditions to showcase the light wind slalom gear, just as impressive as formula gear in light winds I've heard.

yeah, looking a bit average now, but we will be there with out fingers crossed.
We only need 12 knots, so we may be ok?

Thanks James, you beat me to it. The event is Cancelled due to lack of wind.

I really hope we didn't put too many people out by cancelling on the day.

There are a couple of lessons that we can take away from the day.
1 - We need to have a pre-registration with emails and mobiles why?
a - So we have an idea of numbers so we can organise some logistics.
b - We need to be able to cancel on the day i.e at 7am when the forecast has changed dramatically. I could have texted, emails and posted a cancellation to save everyone the effort of coming, as i'm sure we all have better things to do on zero wind days.
c - This location has too few car parks. Even today it was almost fill at 9.30am.

Anyway, sorry for the late notice....but the potential for great 1 day events is the way forward.... we just need to keep learning and we will all get better and more windsurfing in....cheers

Despite almost zero wind, it was a beautiful afternoon out on the water. Maybe next time...

When were you there? We were down at Kyeemagh around 3.30pm and it was quite windy with a cool onshore wind. Unfortunately I left my wetsuit at home However back at home and checking the graphs it looked like the wind finished up around 4pm.

I was rigging at about 3:30 when "That Gust" came through. I had to hold my rig down while I was rigging and was considering putting up a 6.8. It was all over in 30 mins though.

Hi Rexy,

Ive put your number on the contact list already and anyone else that I have numbers for. :)

We are hoping to get the bulk SMS system going before the weekend so we can send an update on the morning if the forecast dies like last time..

At the moment the race committee is considering the forecast. It does look better Saturday and a final decision will be made Thursday.

Cheers
David

If slalom is moved to Saturday some of us will have to choose between FW at Marmong and slalom in Sydney. Bugger that wind! So if I am not there, that will be why.

Well Bruce it looks like you are the new Greg Bacon.
I think you should sail slalom more often.
