The website , http://iycwindsurfingevents.net.au/nswraceboard/ , now has a series payment page. The series entry fee is a modest $100 and is transacted through Windsurfing NSW paypal account. If you don't have a paypal account to pay for this you can use your credit card - the paypal site is pretty self explanatory.

There is also a "survey" on whether you are interested in a series T-shirt. If there is enough interest then I'll get them printed up. The entry fee does not included the cost of the T-shirt.

Fantastic start to the series - 5 races on Saturday and 2 on Sunday (we could have had more.....!)

Raceboard heaven at Hawkes Nest - great 10 -15 knot wind, challenging tide, enthralling racing (at least from where I was!), great bunch of people.

The combination of Formula & Raceboard worked really well.

Thanks to Byron & the team , and especially Glenn & John in the boat.

Looking forward to the next round in about 1 month's time.

Yes, this is the list (although the link above seems to be broken?) Starboard & Exocet are main manufacturers of raceboards at the moment - (there are others).

Many "older" raceboards (Mistral, F2, Fanatic, etc) are still competitive in the class. The maximum sail size is 9.5m for men and 8.5m for women.

The website www.raceboard.org gives the full rundown of the class.

Second round of the NSW Raceboard Series is on this weekend at Lake Macquarie. Looks like good wind forecast for Sunday and a bit lighter on Saturday. This racing is run in conjunction with the third round of the formula series.

Meet at the Marmong Sailing Club on Saturday at about 9:30am.

Another great raceboard weekend!. Fives races on Saturday and four races on Sunday. All pushing the limits of the 9.5m sail.
A big thanks to the Marmong crew for putting on a great regatta, and love the "new" canteen, especially the egg & bacon sandwiches!!

James G was far too good, scoring a straight run of bullets!

Next round should continue the good run of racing - the traditional weekend at Sanctuary Point, December 7th & 8th. Book your accommodation, and organise your leave pass - whatever you do don't miss this weekend!

Round 3 of the NSW Raceboard Series is on this weekend (December 7th & 8th) at Sanctuary Point. The regatta incorporates the 2014 NSW Raceboard Championship and the 2013/2014 Interclub Championship. The Sanctuary point weekend is a bit of a traditional raceboard weekend, and should attract a good number of raceboard fans. Last year the event was hit with 25 knot + winds which proved fast and furious and a real test for most sailors.

Returning to defend last year's title is Mike Nelson, complete with all the latest kit. Mike will be pushed by in-form and current NSW Series leader James Grunfelder on identical kit - it promising to be an epic battle.

After holding the "prestigious" Illadac Trophy for many years, The Dobroyd Aquatic Club will need to battle hard to win it back from last year's winners, The Illawarra Yacht Club Windsurfers.

To view the NSW Raceboard Championship NOR click on the link http://iycwindsurfingevents.net.au/nswraceboard/

This should be a fun weekend!

I thought exocet and starboard were the only two "long" raceboards (at least available in Australla) ! What are the others??

Hi Clarence,

Windsurfer Japan (who?) were making a 380 course board but I'm not sure if they still are. Mistral were entertaining bringing back the OD/Equipe a few years ago but that seems to have not happened. The original Windsurfer One Design is still made and raced. Exocet have several different raceboards (including the Kona One) as does Starboard. Some of the older boards from AHD, F2, Mistral etc can still be found in reasonable nick and are competitive against the modern boards.

Two days of great racing at a great location describes the NSW Raceboard Championship regatta held at Sanctuary Point last weekend.

Saturday saw light, shifty winds from the south east, slowly building during the day and turning around to the east. Four tactical races were completed on a winward/leeward course. Of the 18 competitors it was Richie Reynolds from Sydney emerging as the strong leader with 3 wins and a second, followed by Glen Morrell from Wollongong and Damian Shannon Hooper from Sydney. Pre-regatta favourites James Grunfelder and Mike Nelson were a little further back but still within striking distance.

It was pretty clear on the water that Severne have a monopoly on the raceboard sail market with 17 of the 18 sporting the red sail and Starboard have a growing dominance in the raceboard market with 14 of the 18 using the Phantom.

Sunday dawned with the same cloudless skies but the wind starting to blow from the NE fairly early. Racing began just after 10am with 10-15 knots of somewhat patchy wind, but definitely full planning conditions. The favourites quickly jumped to the front of the placings with James snaring 2 wins and a second and Mike a win, a second and a third, However Richie was hanging on to his lead with a couple of 5th's- the championship was well and truly on!
The increasing wind and chop caused all sailors to change sails and the last race was pretty much survival with gust hitting 25 knots. Ben Morrell came to the fore, winning the last race, followed by James, Col McCall and Glen Morrell. Unfortunately both Richie & Mike recorded DNF's due to gear failure.

The final results saw Glen Morrell (19) emerge victor by the narrowest of margins from James Grunfelder(20), Mike Nelson(29) and Richie Reynolds(34).

A big thanks to Nick Nelson for acting as Race Officer and Neil McKinlay for organising all the boat stuff. A top regatta!!!

Hey Guys,

Just a reminder that this weekend (March 1 & 2) is the last round of the NSW Raceboard series - at the same location as the Raceboard Oceanics. Should be fun racing with a max of 5 races a day. Racing with the Formula fleet.

See you there.

This weekend (March 1 & 2) has been postponed due to poor wind forecast and the tie up with the formula fleet. The new date may be next weekend - keep an eye out on this forum for confirmation.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

A great weekend to finish the series, both saturday and sunday provided some great racing with some really close finishes across the fleet. A bit disapointing that the season is now over but looking forward to getting back out on the raceboard again for next season. Thanks again to Glen for getting this series off the ground again. Would be great to see anyone who gas a raceboard in the garage to dust it offer and get back on the water and remember dobroyd still has racing happening on Wednesday's at 6pm and saturdays and illawarra have saturday racing still going on too.
