I thought I share this little story with you.
Like many others, I had a ball sailing all day on NYE and was the last one getting off the water around 8pm. As good food is the second most important thing after windsurfing, I had to hurry up to get to a BBQ in the city. I packed up in record time and jumped in the car and....it didn't start. You can't be serious I thought. Tried couple more times but she still didn't start.
Now, as you can imagine this might not be the best day in the year to have a car break down.
I have called the manufacturers road side assist which has informed me that my membership has run out a week ago and since I haven't renewed would not receive any assistance. GREAT. I called NRMA which I wasn't having a membership either but they signed me up straight away to a premium rate as I needed assistance straight away.
NRMA arrived around 10.30pm.
We were standing in front of the car looking at the engine when the NRMA technician asked we whether this is a Subaru whilst VW was screaming from everywhere. I thought WTF, is this guy for real???
No surprise, the problem could not be identified and a tow truck had to be called in. No kidding, you could not swing a cat in the carpark I was in let alone me getting towed out of it.
I was thinking of abandoning my car and come back tomorrow but was concerned my gear might have been gone by then.
I went for walk to one of our fellow windsurfers living close by hoping that I can put my gear into storage. Lucky me, he was home and we picked the gear up and it was all done and dusted by 12.30am.
Sweet, I thought. Just get in a taxi and off I go to the party.
2am, I gave up calling for a taxi as the line was busy all the time and no empty taxis were heading back to the city.
So I walked back to my car rethinking strategy.
The carpark had almost cleared so I thought calling in the tow truck which arrived around 4.30am. Unfortunately, he could not take my car so another tow truck arrived around 5am.
I finally got home around 6am.
Happy 2011
Thanks guys, indeed a day to remember.
There was only a 9pm firework which I did not take much notice off.
HI Martin,
Bummer of a night. I was asleep by the time the NRMA turned up if that makes you feel any better.
Sam.
