Hello, me and my wife are moving from NZ to the Byron area, we are flying into Sydney, buying a van and heading that way, my question is how easy will it be to find a decent windsurfing rig near Byron or would I be better off buying my gear around Sydney?
Best option would be to get gear from Wind Surf n Snow, Anzac Ave Collaroy so if you have your van/car
you can sail on the way up.
See Sam or Chris, weekdays are best as usually casual staff on over the weekend.
(Windsurf - new gear, new older stock and used gear, SUPs, SUP foil, windsurf foil...)
Otherwise Surf Fx at Southport (north of Gold Coast), approx. 75 min from Byron. Big shop, lots of
W surf & SUP gear.
Thanks for the advise, is there any websites for private sellers so I can get a little better value? The only one I looked at so far was gumtree and there wasn't many options.
Gumtree is usually overpriced for w surf gear & lots of older rubbish.
seabreeze is great. Go to buy & sell and use the filters. Not too much
gear as a package although you can easily choose exactly what brand/size of board or sail you want & then pick up the rest from a shop.

Hey great to hear your making the pilgrimage to the lovely north coast.
I have lived in the area for 30 plus years and will never leave.
There has been a few waves but summer is always inconsistent for quality.
Feel free to look me up when you've landed in the bay. I've just returned to windsurfing and it seems as though I may be the only sailor that hasn't migrated to kiting. As for your kit I was able to pick up a board & rig for under $400 with a little patience and driving.
Cheers for the heads up about pricing. Windsurfing gear in NZ is super expensive so I wasn't sure what to expect. I will definitely give you a shout when we get settled
I was also wondering what size sails suit the conditions there?
