Looks like a southerly will hit us this Thursday?
Who can get out of whatever commitments you have to go for a sail? If my work is up to date and there are no emergencies then I will. If it blows hard I will go down to the St Georges sailing club for some speed GPS sailing.
Its early days but Saturday is starting to look good. Of course the arrows can change between now and then but hopefully the winds will get stronger and stronger.
Not in Syd
But will be getting some water time in over the weekend!
Good luck down your way
Btw (i'm not on coast atm) whats the weather doing on the coast (as in i've heard it's windy and rainy but is the rain killing off the wind a bit leading to patchness or just ripping through the whole time?)
I'm off down the coast this weekend with my board. There's still 4 more sleeps for the green arrows to turn red though.
Be careful of Georges river after heavy rain![]()
I think some of the guys got a bit crook after a session last year![]()
Unfortunately, the system (sewerage) can't handle influx of lots of rain - guess where the overflow goes. Low tide is best for sail ( & bugs
)
I don't know what I'm going to do. ![]()
There is just too much wind predicted in Sydney this week.
I won't be able to get any SUP done.
Looks like I'll just have to windsurf instead. ![]()
Actually it looks like the most wind predicted for Sydney this year (and yes I look every week). Usually I'm skeptical, but it looks like the wind has already started.
Yehaa bring it on! I am going to try for Thursday but Sat is looking the best for time.
"Emmaline St - referred to as 'The New Spot'" is this the place to go when its from the south rather that the southern point at Kyemma?
Oh bring it on, I'm hanging out. ![]()

Botany bay after rain?! I've stopped going there now after getting ill every time! A mate had 3 parasitic virusus from one trip in the spring - the doctor said he'd never seen all 3 in one person!!! One of them only really comes from human excrement which is a bit grim.
Enjoy Botany! I'm sticking with open water!!!
Mumble mumble grump grump! wind going, to busy at work and shed loads of rain.
Oh well good for the dam levels and finishing the house!
No good for me either. As the week goes on I get more and more work. It was looking promising till Tuesday then for whatever reason everyone needs things fixed or whatever.
More work? Off I go then.
Yes the pain of it all. Is there anywhere in Sydney that is okay after all the rain? Sat has picked up a little bit again. Only had time to look at the graph now, dam work!
I guess Pittwater and Broken Bay would be as good as anywhere as they both have bushland around much of their shores.
I'd be up for a Sandy Point session, although I'm still not sure the breeze will hang around. I'll still bring the formula board, just in case![]()
i might join you for a sail at sandy point tomorrow - what time are you heading there?
hopefully there's not too many yachts out... Now i have to figure out how to ride the formula board again...![]()
Botany was okay yesterday, a couple of hours of fun sailing.![]()
Can I ask a question on being over powered from you informed persons? I rigged a 7.4 yesterday as the wind was supposed to die off earlier than it did. The first few runs were nuts and I felt way over powered and my arms are telling me so today.
Is a symptom of being over powered ‘not being able to hold the board down wind' even though my ass was nearly in the water and I tried everything I know to counter rounding up??
Later in the day was all good.
Timford - I don't know much but. if you round up, you have to put the mast forward in the track to counter, but if it was all the way forward, then you prob had too much sail up, as the centre of effort was still way too far back
Being overpowered to me means the board is riding high on the fin and when you go to gybe the sail gets ripped out of your hands on the new tack. When you try to waterstart the sail keeps getting flipped and its all so hard.
Were you sheeting in when you were rounding up? Its possible the sail was too big to fully sheet in, thus you were not getting any pressure down into the mastfoot, thereby putting the centre of effort to the rear and causing you to round up.
I have not sailed at all so far this weekend. Perhaps tomorrow? There is a forecast of a north easter.
Clearly the wind will be marginal at best so Somewhere on Botany Bay would be the best, probably over at Kurnell? I filled my van up today so no problems to drive somewhere. Filling up cost $100. Thats for about 58 liters of diesel. Thankfully we don't have to drive to work. Shanks pony still costs me nothing.
Thank you chaps. I was well sheeted in and rounding up but track was a touch further back than normal (rushing to get ready).
I am going to head down to Botany later this morn (9.15 update first) with the wife to have a another go and hope the NE lifts a little and then cross all members for next weekend.
Hi Guys
If you weren't out on Saturday arvo then you missed the breeze of the weekend. I went out at Sandy point around lunch time and had a great sail on my Formula 161 and 10.8 race sail. I was even overpowered at the end and came in. All in all a pretty good sail. I reckon that if I'd rigged half a hour later I would have gone with the 8.3 and sailed an extra hour in building conditions, but by the sounds of things everyone else missed it. Maybe for once pittwater had the pick of the conditions ![]()
