I,m returning to Narrabeen for an extended holiday yeah!! After many years away I was hoping for a little local advice. I was wondering if Long Reef is still good in a southerly? We used to venture out from the main beach, but also on the North side at Fishermans Bay.
What is this Makaha you talk of? Presumably down on the point? Do you walk your gear all the way across the top and down? Which car park?
And.... Will it be any good this weekend? I see a southerly is coming. Thanks

That's a long time between drinks!

PS: Long Reef still operates the same way, provided there's enough wind.
The 7-day forecast will change so much in the intervening period that we could end up with a Noreaster by Sunday.

Cheers

longie still the same, NE only good when strong & proper NE.

southerly you can launch from long reef and sail downwind around the point to little Makaha or grovel out from fisherman's/brownwater. it's a real struggle to get back to longie unless it's a straight southerly. I've seen a few de-rigging and walking back from little makaha (to longie) but I prefer to attempt to get through the wind shadow at white rock. usually a short swim but worth it to save time & I'm on a time budget a lot!

you will be v frustrated by the (lack of) wind forecast especially compared to WA and as Albers said the 7 dayer seemingly changes each update. this warm & humid weather is cr@p for wind as well.

but YES, makaha can be excellent!!
