Hi guys, I have a friend who lives in Sydney who is interested in having a lesson in windsurfing. He has never windsurfed before and would like to try it out. As I am in Vic, was wondering what you guys reckon would be the best place to get a good lesson? I know only of Windsurf n snow, do they do lessons? Is there an alternative to them ? I should mention that my mate does not have any gear so this would need to be included in the lesson.
thanks
Last Week i ran into the UNSW windsurfing and Sailing club at Kyeemagh, and they were teaching beginners and intermediates guys (Brave ones, considering the conditions).
They have at least two Bic Nova, which I consider to be one of the best board for Windsurfing 101. The students teaching mostly sounded like imported french riders, so they certainly are good teachers...
(More seriously some of their guys had what seemed like their first planning in the 18-25kt gusty south wind with its regular 75cm swell, so their teaching looked fairly efficient)
Saying that, I don't know if there are accepting non-student nor if becoming a member just for a few lessons would be worth it. But since you were asking for alternatives, that might be one...
I don't know how frequently Windsurf 'n snow are doing initiations, but I brought two friends of mine for the JP/NP trailer demo day and they loved it, so I would definitely start by looking there.![]()
I think the school at Balmoral is still running, do a web search, it's right on Bamoral beach on the lower North Shore.
We have a couple of instructors we use for first timers who we can put your friend in touch with. Also we are planning on running another try windsurfing intro day. Again if your friend gets in touch we can try fit in a bit with their schedule.
Cheers,
Sam.
