Hi
i have been considering trying out formulae sailing but before i go and spend any money i would really like to try it out and see if it grabs me or not.
Anyone around botany able to let me have a few runs on their formulae kit ?
Craig
Hey Roar,
If you see me out on formula gear come and grab me. I'd be happy to let you take it for a spin. Formula is like nothing else...

I'm keen too but a little unsure. I've acquired an old formula board and a big sail, but will need to buy a new mast and boom in order to use. Not sure whether I should take the plunge.
I get out on my big 150L freeride board with a 7.2 m, and while I LOVE floating across the water in next to no wind, the 7.2 m is just so cumbersome. Water starting is a near impossibility.
If a 7.2 m is pushing me, would I cope with formula gear? Or is it just a matter of improving my fitness, strength and getting used to it?
Any hot tips for waterstarting with big rigs other than don't fall off?
Needsalt, give it a go.
I was unsure about the practicality of such a big sail and board combo.
I have only just gotten into it and found I can water start a 9.8m along with an 11.2.
I'm not sure if this is the done thing but as I come from a wave sailing background (sinker boards) it was simply easier for me to water start the sail rather than up-haul.
Could be a different story if the rig has been in the water a while and the mast and luff tube fill with water ?
It is pretty amazing to be planning in as little as 10 knots !
Will anyone be out with formulae gear this weekend down around ramsgate?
Bom saying strong southerlys for sat even tho seabreeze graph has turned to **** :)
