Hi to all. I am a 33y/o Pommy bloke back in to windsurfing after 15 yrs out of the sport. I am looking to meet fellow windsurfers in the Sydney area. I would love to get out to try my new gear but am unsure of the best places to go for different wind directions. Flatwater is more my thing, dont mind a bit of chop but no big waves!!
Am living in Bondi (with all the rest of the poms), Anyone out this weekend????
head for botany bay
you might get a nor easter on saturday, go kyeemagh/brighton-le-sands (under the airport tunnel, opposite the runways), or on sunday in the westerly go to kurnell (when it has north in it) or la perouse when it has south in it. kurnell is a bit of a hike around the bay, grab a map so you can see where the spots are. there will be someone out, not me, i'm in NZ!
you can also sail rose bay in the westerly, best if it's howling and not low tide, it's only a 5 minute drive too.
Where in rosebay can u launch? I havent seen anyone out there. I'm familiar with where to launch at kyeemagh as ive seen a few sailors out there. Cheers for the tips ![]()
you can launch off the right of the yacht club area, either sail out from the shore (a couple of tacks) or run in off the boat ramp... it can be slippery though, dodge the yachts across to the clear water. yeah, you're prob less likely to see people out there than botany bay; but occasionally you will and some kiters go out there too. it's actually not too bad if the wind is really up and being so close to bondi makes it easy. just don't get done for parking
Hi Matt,
I'm yet another windsurfing Pom and live in Coogee. I've been out a couple of times at Kyeemagh...last sat was excellent! The guys there and on this forum are really friendly so just pitch up and introduce yourself. I've got a green Audi and OTC stickers on my sails....see you down there when it's windy next,
Cheers,
Giles
Thanks Giles,
A north easterly is predicted for tomorrow, if u go kyeemagh where can i expect to find your green audi Parked??......and at what time?
Matt
Giles, I saw you out last Sat smashing along, I recalled your post in a forum saying you would have the OTC on your sail. You were smoking man, no wounder you were hanging to get your kit over, I was in the water getting better at water starts watching all the good fellas smash by. Welcome. I am going to head down tomorrow about mid day rig up and wait, the boss is after her first sail for the season, i have the red ute.
Howdy all,
Looks like it could be a full house on saturday. See you on the water or in my case; in it!!
Sorry to not have stopped and chatted last weekend Tim but only had a short time on the water. After a day in Ikea today I could do with some time on the water tomorrow. I'll look out for the red ute Tim, and hope to see everyone else down there,
Cheers,
Giles
bloody hell just been down the booza or is it boosa, anyways once i sober up im on the water on sunday, see you there. please bring pain killers
A nice couple of hours on the water this avo, bit of time getting back in but not so bad really. Lovely flat water, some relly lovely flat water runs at the northern end of the runway with the 7.4 up. Hope the 'sail' was great Wineman, it held up for you by the look of the graph. Might aim for a Wed/Thurs late avo bash. ![]()
A nice southerly is predicted for wednesday afternoon if anyone can take the time off....any recommendations of where to launch in southerlies??????......the joys of working for yourself!!!!!! Cheers
Matt,
The spot where you were on Saturday is good in a southerly. Further north gets lumpy. Another option is Dolls point (further south).
If there si some west in it you can go to St George Sailing club around my the Captain Cook bridge.
JB
I am going to try
and make it out on Wed avo. Will head for the southern end of the Grand Parade just before it re joins the main drag...
Sadly I wont be able to get out this wednesday. Work really gets in the way of my windsurfing, and I have to prepare a presentation for the "Sustainable Government Forum" on Thursday. The presentation is thirdhand so I really have to try to familiarise myself with the content.
Bring on more northerlies,
JB
Nice one tim, It wil be good to put another face to another name! I will be in a silver mitsubishi ute .see u there![]()
