Anybody interested in doing this event? its for charity, cancer research.
I contacted them to ask if windsurfs are eligible. kites and moths have done it so we should be fine but he is asking the committee. The event doesn't clash with the formula series this year.
The course looks like it is probably for formula gear but if the wind is blowing across the lake east or westerly then a slalom board might be OK.
I have a boat licence so I could volunteer as support vessel but I'm probably not needed.

from the committee

Hi Justin, I have consulted with the committee, and they are all ok but we will need you to have a rescue boat, so if you are on board with that, we would love to have your fleet join us, and subject to numbers, we could create a separate division for you. Get your entries in.

I can skipper the rescue boat, I just need a boat.

So far there is one potential entry and we only need one to represent and win it. It would be great to have a fleet and show the wider sailing community windsurfing and where it is at.

By all reports the most recent regatta at Jervis Bay was epic! However the numbers where small particularity in the free formula. We need some new guys and i reckon this is a good way to do it.

Us kiters would have been there again this year and we could have shared a rescue boat but we will all be at the worlds in China this year.

Good luck to you guys in China wdric!!

JustinL, sounds like you prefer to be support, rather than race this one. We could provide a crew for the rescue boat if you need, or a skipper if you change your mind.

Great cause!! Once you know any windsurfer/s competing, we can help spread the word for donations.

The race starts tomorrow, rego is today.
Tonight is a dinner and talk with AC sailors and Olympic people.
Weather seems ok wind wise but maybe rain.
Byron and I are organising support boat so let us know if you are coming. I'll be trying to drive the support boat and film the race. there are a couple of spectator spots on the boat.

We never do any marathons and this is a great location doing the lap of lake Macquarie.
The wind should be se and 15 plus knots (BOM has issued strong wind warning different to seebreeze again hope its 15 to 20 with the 11 that would be good.
Must join tonight now to register.
Bring your aqua pack hoping to do it under 4 hrs 3hrs would be better but all wind dependant.
It would have been unreal to have the kites show us the way.
looking forward to another day like last weekend of fun.

Marathon heaven can wait charity event out of Toronto Sailing around lake Macquarie.
GPS stopped working "battery Flat" sometime during event it states 65 km think I did around 75 to 80 km
Had a blast around 2 hr 45 I was under done all day but able to get around ok.
A bit on the light side but still only moths in front of me by the first mark.
When I had wind to 14 knots for 15 min I realty got going and caught the moths and had a good hustle beating upwind with them for a whilst but when the wind dropped again they were too quick and so was the big expensive carbon trymaran.
More wind and we will have an unreal race on our hands.
NBN showed footage and had some of me at the start which is great for Windsurfing.
It would be great if next year we can organise more windsurfers and the kites would have smashed it today.
We should put this in our calendars as going around lake Macquarie and promoting windsurfing it was heaps of fun and feeling good I was more tired last Sunday after racing than I am now.
A big thanks to Justin Lord and his Son Alex, who were on my boat as the rescue boat a nice way for Alex to see lake Macquarie.
I would love to google earth my tracks to see where it stoped working but google earth does not work on my computer.

Great effort Byron!
Boy if it had been on today it would have been a trial with all the rain we've had. I drove past Warners Bay etc today and with all the runoff you wouldn't want to fall in..
