Gerroa - September 29: It's On!

Well, not quite yet. Plus I hope I don't jinx things with an overly excited forecast. It's currently about 12 knts from the SW. Waves are a dribble 2 to 3 foot. But this should rapidly change over the next couple of hours. By mid morning a Southerly change should have made it's way up the coast to bless us with winds in the 25 to 30 knt range. Wind swell should also pick up a bit. Combine all this and I'll be placing my bets on Windang this morning.

Then looking onward we should see four days of building Nor'Easters starting on Friday and peaking on Sunday. Wind on those days should be in the 15 to 25 knt range possibly a bit more on Sunday. Pick of the crop as far as Wind and Wave combo goes should be mid afternoon on Friday. I'll be attempting to get updates online early morning for those days to give you a gage on conditions and wether you think it's worth driving down from Sydney.

As for the Southerly today, it should arrive in Sydney late morning. My tip: Keep an eye on the Kiama and Belambi Point readings. It usually takes About 30 to 45 minutes from the time it hits Belambi to when it arrives in Sydney. About 60 to 90 Minutes for Kiama. Have a fun time on the water if you can get out. If not you should be able to get in some a good session or two over the weekend.

Speaking of sessions, the second session of the NSWWA wave sailing series is on in Woolgoolga (just North of Coffs Harbour) this weekend. Unfortunately the forecast doesn't look so hot for that region.

Update 09:00 am:
Southerly is just rolling in over the bay. Wind is now 15 knts from the South but should be 20+ in the next 20 minutes. Time to pack up the car.

Where did you sail in the Gong? I went out at Windang around 12.30 and it was pretty ordinary, with very messy swell and marginal wind in the 14-18 range, maybe peggies was better?

The Bom has upgraded for friday know saying up to 20 knts

I sailed at Peggie's but it was probably 4-ish by the time I got out. Talking to the kiters that were there, they said that it picked up at about 330, before that it was a bit patchy. I was well powered on a 5.2 but the tide was a bit wrong for a nice wave off the reef. Water was damn cold too!
