Strangely it doesn't look as big this morning I thought it would. Sure the second bomby is working but it's nothing like Friday the 13th back in August. But having seen how quickly things can change here it could be huge from about lunch time onwards. BTW, the wind is currently in the 5 to 10 knt range and shouldn't gain in strength as the day goes on. So no sailing.
Yesterday afternoon was a killer. Did anyone get out in Port Kembla? Gerroa was truly as good as it would ever get in a westerly direction. The swell was in the shoulder high range with the odd logo high set with gusts in the high 40s/ low 50s around late afternoon. I went out in a lull around 3pm and ended up getting caned on too big a sail. Still caught a few fun waves and had a great 30 minute session before work called. (see photos from yesterday afternoon below)
I guess this weekend will be a case of surf surf and more surf with little in the way of wind. No need to drive to the South Coast though. Looks like there is plenty of it in Sydney as well.
Update 12:30pm: Well, how quickly things can change. Just had a brief look out the window. There are now about 10 bods surfing the point and the bomb sets are solidly double head high. The second bomby is also breaking rather large. One last wave of a set was actually breaking from the Northern End of Gerroa right down past the main break where people usually sail. My jaw dropped... photos to come. Will head out shortly for a scout.
Here some shots from yesterday afternoon:
