Good morning folks. Hopefully not with a bad hang over cause it will be windy today... well, it actually already is. Wind is currently in the 15 to 20 knt range. Should be easily 30+ by late morning. There is currently not much swell to speak off. Maybe further North or the Heads will get some decent wind swell later in the day.
Quick recap of yesterday. The wind came through despite a mediocre start. There where a few teeny tiny waves around but to be honest nothing to warrant the drive down from Sydney. Mostly wind swell I am guessing.
The photo shows how flat it really is at the moment:
With the lack of swell at Gerroa I tried Werri first up. Got there at about 3 and by 3:30 it had gone nuclear^extreme, gusts over 40kts I reckon; waves were probably waist high. There were a few nice little ones about but with it being slightly cross on, gusty as hell (headland) and so windy that bottom turning/sailing backwinded became a tiresome pursuit I gave up after about an hour (I did rig to big, 4.7). Then went down to Gerroa and did some freestyle, was a much more sailable 25-30kts
. Absolutely DEAD flat though, but perfect for freestyle.
20 - 25 knots north of Newie and cross to cross off.
Waist high swell
Not bad for the first sail of the year.
Happy New Sailing Year to one and all
