G'day everyone,
As Dean pointed out in the other thread, we have been keeping and eye on the forecast and this Saturday looks great for racing at Coal Point.
We'll make the final call on Thursday night, but please pencil in Saturday for the final event of the Freerace series, up here on Lake Macquarie. Being a nor-easter, racing will start in the afternoon. All the details to be advised on Thursday.
Cheers
James
Unreal spot grass rigging area clean water and good wind I had a 24 plus hr today with my 7.6 Maui and Exocet RS 4 big board was a great sail in 17 knots
Looks so much better without the coal Byron! If you're on for Saturday, Dave Howe and i will be there!![]()
Forecast for Saturday is looking great, so we will lock in the date.
GPS Freerace #4 - This SATURDAY at Coal Point, Lake Macquarie - registration from 12:30, racing to start when conditions are suitable.
Entry is only $20 for the day, and all money raised goes to the clubs who are putting the event on. Please make sure that your GPS is charged and your memory card is inside and working. After we finish sailing I will collect all the memory cards and process them straight away on the shore using the KA72 Freerace software.
For those who haven't been there before, the launch spot is Birriban Reserve, right out on the tip of the point. If you have a GPS, punch in 382 Skye Point Road, Coal Point, NSW. From Sydney, take the Toronto exit.

There is a limited amount of parking of the left side of the road down to the boat ramp, so would be best to park on the large gravel area at the top.
Should be a great day, see you there.
If you have a GT31, would you please check the settings on your GPS before Saturday to make sure the data logger is set up properly.
- Data Logger Menu - Min Speed - Set to 1 kt
- Memory Card Menu - Log Switch - set to ON
- Memory Card Menu - Min Speed - Set to 1 kt
Also, here are the current series standings - note that a "drop" will come into effect after this event, so if you had a bad event or missed a round, there is still a chance to end up with a good result.
Thanks to Adam, there are great trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place as well!
See you Saturday.
Thanks James, looking forward to it. And just a quick update on the trophies. Sure they're not live animals, but how could any one resist!![]()
Despite the forecast a really nice ENE breeze kicked in around lunchtime, and we ended up having two great Freerace sessions.
Remi Dunoyer was dominant today, winning both sessions. This result put Remi and Byron in equal first place for the series, with Byron winning on a countback
Final series standings
1st - Byron Mcilveen
2nd - Remi Dunoyer
3rd - Justin Lord
Thanks to everyone who was part of the series, and to those who helped with the organising. Looking forward to doing it all again next summer!
Unreal day going flat out good fun in the sun.
congratulation to Remi who showed us the way today, and Justin pushing me all the way.
You know you have had a great close series when it becomes a tie and goes down to the drop to see who wins.
Thanks to event organisers great job.
Congratulations Byron, and well done to Remi and Justin. Wasn't happy not being able to make it today.
Thanks James and Adam for organising the series and sorting out the data.
A great day on the water despite an average forecast. Very nice spot where all conditions are met from lumpy/messy to cleaner chop and flatwater.
Looking forward to more racing next season. Congrats Byron and all who got involved.
Great work James. Looks like you guys had a fairly good series. We have only managed 2 events with good wind last race was pretty light on. Wind in Qld has been pretty bad this season ??![]()
Congrats to the place getters. Great trophies n well deserved guys hard to go flat out for an hr
or half hr.
A great arvo for the last round, was good to sail in clear clean water without a weedy for a change. Thanks to Adam, James and others for organising a fun series.

I will put together the replay videos and post tomorrow.
I had a great time participating in this GPS series and really appreciate the people who made it happen. I heard nearly 50 people took part in the series which is huge. James Farley was running briefing and time keeping etc. For a racing scene to develop it needs honesty and integrity and we have that in spades with James. Thanks to the whole team. ![]()
It was so nice to get a trophy what a surprise! I got a green one my favourite colour! Design and made by Adam Craven, very artistic. It sits by the TV, dunno if I will watch the TV more or the trophy, probably the trophy, Ha Ha. Thanks Adam, I love it.
Really enjoyed racing Byron and Remi, such good sailors. I felt we had a good thing there, we were often the last to pack up and leave still chatting and discussing and laughing. Good comradery. ![]()
I was super happy with 3rd place. Thank you to Patrik Deithelm and Karin Jaggi for there expertise and all the knowledge that the Patrik community has. Also, everyone needs a training partner and I have a few, but I like to particular thank Dave Howe. Thanks Dave for all the training sessions. Particularly the formula sessions, we both had great results on the formula series this summer.
At the end when people where sitting around enjoying the food and drink some ideas were put forward for future events.
Laying two marks which you have to go around – this would keep the fleet together more and you would get slalom type moments roundingmarks with other guys
Having different start and finish locations – this would give everybody a sense of achievement that a marathon gives you.
I would like Beach starts and explore some new locations. What about in the winter months we meet the Queenslanders half way for State of Origin at Coffs or SWRocks. They are a good group, very talented.
regards J

You had me at "Hello".
... but seriously, it's been great to have a training partner for FW and Slalom. I've really enjoyed the sailing this season. NSW FW and Slalom events have been great. Big thanks to all the organisers and to everyone who participated.

Good idea of Byron's to get upwind into Belmont Bay area before the start and do longer runs..I might try that if I ever get to go in one again..Bit embarassing if you fall off..shows how long it takes you to get going again..![]()
James that is terrific video. Suggests to me that starting 6 mins late in race 1 was a bad idea. Muz said it would help me, he never lies?
