Hey guys,
i'm headed for Dapto on saturday & spotted Lake Illawarra is just a few minutes away.
Is it deep enough for formula windsurfing & is there much weed?
What are the best places to Launch from in a nor-easter? is there any saturday racing on?

Cheers

Hi Sean,

I lived in the Illawarra for a while an windsurfed a fair bit on the lake.

For racing it would be best to contact or go to the Illawarra Yacht Club. They are on the north side of the lake at Warrawong. The launch area is good there and you should have no problems launching from the club foreshore.

Kanahooka Point, close to Dapto is a great launching spot on a NE. The point juts out into the lake, the water is quite deep from the outset. You'd get great runs over to Windang, Primbee and Warrawong.

Stay away from launching on the east side of the lake. Back 15 years ago it was weedy and shallow. Its probably more so now. Not sure what the weed situation is on the lake overall, whether that stringy weed is all over the place.
