this weekend at Ramsgate Beach, Botany Bay, there will be practice races on either sat or sun depending on wind.

30-31Jan10 will have racing at Hawks Nest...then 2 days rest before the Oceanic's starts.

Cheers

what? are you thinking about entering? How is that going to work? you can't sail more than 500 meters straight...

Fair call.
But with no waves involved the desire to try and catch every single wave possible is taken out of the equation... hence the ability to sail further than 500m in a straight line
AND it's pretty hard to jump a formula board with a 9.8m plus rig

Well that's not actually true... you can jump them but due to the width and the size of the fin the chance of snapping an ankle on the way back down goes up exponentially.

I might have to come with a boat so I can throw rocks at you from close proximity...

I'll be in Nelson Bay on Wednesday arvo and Thursday.
If conditions allow, i'm keen to sail.
Will head over to Hawks Nest Friday morning, as will many others.

Looking interesting for this afternoon in the Bay.
Might need to dodge the odd lightning bolt.
Gotta take my nieces to the circus first.
Hope the clowns finish early enough for me to grab a late sesh.

JJ let me know if you're going to hit the water.
Wouldn't mind trying to get out for a quick lap or two around lunchtime and then a decent sail late this arvo.
Will most likely launch from Shoal Bay = nice grass rigging area and deep water straight off the beach.

I knew when i posted about dodging Lightning from the storm, that I should have included dodging stones from Stehsegler!

Just checked the latest wind readings. Looking very strange.
If it does come in,,,,,,, i'm guessing around 4 or 5pm?

Can jump in the van and be down there in 5 mins from here.

Just been down to Shoal Bay. Patchy gusty and shifty. Quite a bit of low cloud cover with rain on and off. Pretty shi,,, tty all in all.

Bought a 6 pack of cool cleansing ale instead. At least drinking a few beers will not get rocks thrown at me. Well,,,, depends where i drink i guess.

JJ where were you ?
Rigged the 9.8 during the rain and thunder... waited for the lightning to clear abnd then hit the water.
Hit the water around 6 and sailed till 8.
Got pretty well smoked for the last 30 minutes as the wind gusted right up.
White caps everywhere by the end.

Easterly's on the way

Where were you last week? Maybe the swell was too much temptation for you?

Hi Chris how did you go ?
I got smashed on all work fronts last week... as a result... no surf... no swell... and no formula.
Didn't even get the chance to watch any of the racing action aside from the occasional glimpse on the coastal watch web cam

BY all accounts it was a sensational meet with a great turn out, wind and awesome competition !

Hey WW,,,, Sorry I bailed on the thunder session.
I heard you went solo. Hope you didn't get hit by any rocks thrown at you
Was hoping to see you in Hawks Nest. My brother lives and works in Nelson Bay. (Ambo)...
So whenever i'm back in Oz I always head up to stay. Mainly just surf when i'm back, but if you are keen for formula next time, i'll be happy to bring up some gear for those flat days.

Sounds like a plan JJ.
If you are keen to venture into the waves for some wave sailing I have a spare kit or two.
How much do you weigh and how much wave sailing have you done ?
Just trying to work out if we would need to be on the same sized gear or not... as I have a light wind set up and a windy set up but sadly not two of each !

Hey WW,
Am not very experienced in the waves.
Need some practice somewhere safer than Birubi. (a bit sharky to be falling in too many times)
Am actually on my way to Greece right now.
I have a 95L Fanatic Freewave, with North Sails 4.5m ICE, 5.0m ICE, and 5.4m Duke, in Greece. And looks like I might get a chance to finally get out on it this week.

Hope to see you racing some time.

All the best
