Just looking at some aerial shots on airviewonline.com and the sand spit at Fingal Bay looks like it might have potential in a good nor-easter.
If there was no swell from the S or SE it looks like some decent bearaways in pretty flat water to be had. Looks pretty much on the same angle as Jimmys over at Hawks Nest.
Anyone sailed it or had experience of the bay??

It's pretty rare to get it flat and it is very tide dependent.
Even with what looks like no swell there's strong tides working through the area that kick up little runners and the shape of the bay tends to direct lines into that very corner.

Have a closer look at the sand bars in the middle of the Bay just north of Dutchies beach (but to the east of the entrance into Hawks Nest)

On a mid to low tide the sand bar will break.
Stumbled across it a couple of times looking for some bump and jump stuff and then as a little wave for the SUP.

There is actually a couple of sand bars and a channel in between.
Once you work out where the entrance and exit points are you can hit it at high speed and get a 400 - 600m blast in dead flat water.
Tide dependent you can go straight over the top of the ends of the bar but on low tide it is only ankle deep.

A couple of us up this way have been thinking about taking a couple of deck chairs out there (in the boat) and setting up a bit of a strip when the tide is down and the wind is up.

In a decent nor easter we have also parked a car at Bagnalls beach and then launched from Shoal Bay for a massive down wind blast.

Been there done that Larko. Not as good as you might think. Kev's right. He's also spot on about the sand banks off dutchies. I had an awesome sail there over New Years a few years ago before the speed bug really bit and I still managed some 30+ speeds on older style kit so I'd love to get back there again for a blat.
We should get the fams together and go for a weekend on a good forecast!!
