Calling all Central Coast sailors - where to sail in a NE'r if staying at Copacabana? Looking for DTL ideally!

Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks

The only joint I know of around that part of Central Coast would be Forresters Beach.

yup... Forresters and Wamberal can both work. Although Wamberal tends to get really scary really quickly.

You can also try Birdi further North. But it's a bit of a drive from Copacabana.

North Entrance beach (off Curtis Rd.) is also good in a NE'er and not as scary as Wamberal.

Thanks. Why is Wamberal scary?

Tends to ramp up severely when the tide is right & the swell is on the increase - much more than other CC beaches. Some of the jumps can be huge........as in s#*t scary.

Usually don't sail there any more because of this as I value my knees too much.

Having said that it is still good to sail when things are right. However, I reckon there are better options up here.

ne spots

North wamberal, works in north swell can be epic off the point though gutters are hard to pick and it is very gusty unless true north east always best before 4pm otherwise it becomes to offshore. needs to be strong to ride.

Forrestors is unreal dtl better than any where i have ridden on the east coast picks up more swell than anywhere. this wave is VERY powerful huge off the lips are possible.
you need south swell with more than a 10 sec period for it to show its glory there is a channel to get out though if bigger than logo you need good timing.

North Shelly - similar to north wamberal though less gusty

Spot X - insane sooooo sucky i have been riding here on and off for a few seasons need a mid tide and E swell very very shallow though butter smooth and 3 sections to play with...bring spare masts

North entrance or millionaires - cross shore is good when wind goes more north later in the day. good jumping and usually stronger than anywhere.

Pellos - ne swell- solid banks can be gusty though much better than north wamberal
can be unreal with long dtl rides across three banks holds swell up to mast high channel next to rocks to get out or head to soldiers and jump of the rocks and sail down.

Soldiers- E-NE swell on the point can be awesome though quite a slow wave and can get busy with surfers.

The box - South swell needs to be 6ft or bigger and a strong ne and the box is dtl with 8 10 sections to rival Peru.....only seen twice and have lived here my whole life.
always a gamble because forries is a sure thing in the same conditions.

If you wanna know any more pm me and ill send you my number. I live at wamberal
see you on the water.

Awesome info, thanks Jimmy. Might have to add this to the sailing spots guide on NSWwavesailing.org - unless you want to keep it to yourself .

Didn't realise there would be so many options - will have to head up more frequently.

Are you coming down for the Wanda comp?

Im going to try to make the comp hopefully my gut is all good by then. It would be awesome to have more guys to ride with up here most have defected to kitting.....gay
the wind is not as good as newy or sydney though our waves seem to be much better quality...most of the spots we have are reefs that stick out and catch even the smallest swell. That comp at gerroa you had by the looks of the vid head high waves and 5.0 weather, same day at forries was mast high +++ but the boys were struggling on 5.8's. If you ever want to come up for the day or weekend i have spare room at my house always happy to put up wavesailors who are keen to explore new spots.
Scotty i will catch you on the water in the new year, Have fun in the snow and a great xmas!!!

Hey Jimmy, did you hear about Craig winning a motorised skateboard as a prize at Merimbula? Not bad for being called out last at the prezzo. Toowoon carpark will never be the same again.

I was so pissed that Craig won the skateboard that i made him ride it home. He was last seen at Bega charging the battery.[}:)]

spots to ride in a southerly

Toowoon bay point - E swell is want you need for all three sections to link when this happens its all time though its not very often.. usually we get se swell and you only get the out side section and the inside section and they don't really link. The best combination is a big e swell and sw-ssw this is pure wave riding and is nothing more than spectacular.Be warned though anything with west in it is VERY gusty there is always plenty of wind on the point though if it goes too west you cant get back in.And you cant swim in.I have broken a stupid amount of gear chasing these conditions......well worth it though. The only options you have when this happens is hope the pros are on to pick you up with the ski , or come in over the reef at blue bay.
The boys will all remember this winter in the 8m swell the wind went offshore when i was kiting and i had to swim to north entrance.....and was lucky that someone sent a ski and a helicopter to get me.You can ride here very safely though in anything from S SE ESE southerly can be epic jumping.Other hazards of toowoon are kite kooks
easily identified .....the ones wearing boardies over wetties it is getting really busy now and there is a new generation of kiters who dont understand windsurfing and seem to panic when you start bottom turning and heading dtl.....yes we can ride waves to. Due to these reasons i spent last season searching for new spots and here they are...

Forrestors - In a southerly you ride the opposite side of the island and the jumping is epic can be fun cross on wave riding though due to it being a swell magnet it quickly becomes scary. Something I have been considering here though is in a sw or wsw it looks more than possible to ride dtl on the rights. This is an awesome wave and i surf it regularly..only thing is you would have to swim off the beach out to the wind line..im going to try this soon!

Tallows- ridden here a few times...things you need a 4wd, fire trail keys , fitness its a 45min walk with your gear massive swell and strong SE...ive ridden here only a few times by myself and is very sketchy.

Soilders- in a SW you ride the north point you have to park at the surf club and carry your gear up to the point and swim off the rocks. Once your out this spot is insane long rides and it works in all swell directions. The swell quickly increases here though and i have started the day riding head high and finished it riding mast high monsters....yes i broke all my gear. Has a bit of a channel to get out though timing is still required.

Blue bay- Works best with a S wind and SE swell im my mind a better quality wave than toowoon point and generally no kiters.....just surfers. 5 sections and maybe more.....how big are your balls??

The Entrance channel - SW wind can be epic though dangerous rips and shore break can be nasty.have had a few great dtl sessions here.

Swallows- Stupid idea.Though im still going to try.......This winter
things you need....A jet ski to get there....a stupid obsession with wave sailing.Gear your prepared to throw away after one wave. They tow here in a big south swell. in a WSW or W you could ride this wave DTL......I think.

Dunko you have to come ride forries with me bro!!!
