Was up on Muttonbird Island on Sunday just past (20th July), saw a
windsurfer just to the north of Little Muttonbird Island (off Park Beach/Coffs Creek Mouth) at about 12midday, was that anyone on Seabreeze?
You were flying along on a long reach half way outta the bay, next I looked you were off the water. So thought i'd say hi, as will catch you and all the Coffs sailors out there sooner or later.
There was also a kiter out later (about 2pm).
Got down the late in the arvo (after doing some chores), only got one run in, as it was a bit flukey and my first ocean windsurf. So stoked to hit some new water, been only in the river so far.
Yeah so hi to all the local windys.
We should get some crew together sometime, whats everyone reckon?
how did you go at the Park Beach Dism, I was at work so it wasn't me. Heading to Ballina tomorrow for a sail in the Richmond River. Forecast looks good. Yep I agree, it will be good to catch up for a sail, unfortunately haven't got a day off for 6wks starting this Sunday. Might be able to get down for an after work sail midweek, but have to run the risk of leaving my board on top of the car (the down fall of a hatch back).
Yeah Parkies was good mabbott, But i shoulda gone down to the Life Saving Club and rigged/launched from there.
Ended up launching at Northwall in the surf (it was only 1-2ft) but would of been better as behind the island in the area where the waves cancel eachother out, then coulda got more time in.
Walked thru the shorey ok, picked the gap in sets, sailed out a safe distance, fell in in a lull, a few uphauls later I sailed back in (no real wave rides but fun as hell anyways).
Went out as was going dark, so hardly any time on water but stoked for first trek out
Hey, heard the river wall at Ballina is the go, this where you heading mabbott?
My old man stays up there with work a bit, I get him to scope the sailing spots out, he said there is a few that sail around there (near the sailing club/waterslide/toward the mouth a bit more)
I'm stuck inland on and off for weeks atm, hopefully get a couple of sails in, then uni hols - hopefully get up to Woopi Flatrockfor the NSW Wavesailing titles to watch (4-6th Oct)
Yeah i know what you mean about feeling suss leavin gear on the roof, I've got roofrack job too. Have a mad time up ballina, Coffs is starting to fire 20kn, Ballina is about 15 atm, hope you chose the right spot!
Btw, anyone know where the Coffs station is at?
I think he means the weather station that Seabreeze uses.
Don't know, maybe at the airport where there is a BOM station?
PM Laurie for an answer.
Dism,
Yeah, feel like a real fool thinking you meant the train station!![]()
Yep, lived in Coffs from 80-90. Surfed most of the area but only ever recall seeing sailboarders out at Parky and in the actual harbour. On a recent visit
I noticed one guy out in the Valla beach area.
Have you been in Coffs for a while? I went to school with an Egan in Coffs...
Emjack - been in Coffs for 15yrs, so woulda missed you i reckon. Only a few yrs outta school, so not me and my fam not originally from here hey.
Otherwise, Coffs is mad and think I know who woulda been out at Valla, a bloke named Peter windsurfs and lives down there
You woulda had an old windsurfing shop near the mall back then right?
dism - Yeah, Coffs is a great place, I only moved to find a more stable source of income, as working on the Banana plantations just wasn't enough
I don't remember a Sailboard shop in Coffs, but then I only surfed back then. The malls changed so many times it's hard to keep up with it all! Brother still lives in Coffs so I occasionally go and visit - the place always seems different.
So where is the best place to sail in Coffs? I'd like to take the gear next time I visit.
The forecast looks the goods, hope I do not jinx you. Murphys law though as today I had the car packed up hoping to get a sail in this morning, nothing. started work at 2pm and the seabreeze kicks in. Huey is messing with my head.
With the forecast looking the way it is I might have to go the harbour for a little shelter. My smallest sail is an old 6.1 sailworks synchro which is cambered.
I have to work sat and sun until 3.30pm so it will be a late quick dip.
