Hi all,
Simply, the roaches need a new captain. I have resigned. If you are interested please reply and I will forward the relevant details onto the GPS TC admin people.
Cheers,
Larko.
KEEF is desperate to be a team captain,he was acting captain of the Gustbusters while Ian was away and it didn't go so well.Unfortunately he won't be given another chance.
KEEF,if you became captain of the Cockroaches you could use your leadership to combine the teams to create one big super team .The team could be renamed by merging the names together, perhaps something like Gustroaches or ... C..... Oh .....maybe not
Ok, I have no motives, simple as that. If you want to red thumb, go ahead. I really couldn't give a *****. A few of us have started a new team so I am not and cannot be the captain of the Cockroaches. The lack of applicants and negativity says a whole lot about the dysfunctional small minded side of the team. Everyone else is cool. So red thumb away!!
I have tried to make it simple, easy as. Best of luck.
George, no worries man.
Ka360, you have shown your true side once again.

This is the main problem......there are too many people on some teams. it will end up like NSW vs QLD etc. teams should be limited to say a max of 10. Wouldn't it be better if there were more teams in your area which you could race against in the same weather conditions and not compete with a team which has totally different conditions. If your team area has 20 - 30 knots every day how does that make you a better team than a team which has 5 - 20 knots once a month !!

hehehehehehe your a comedian Ark , the rules state GPS TEAMCHALLENGE , the acting team captain is nominated by the GPS TEAMCHALLENGE as captain,
and as "stated" the captain of the team is the captain , not deputy captain or stand-by but the captain until he is willing to stand down , sorry Ian but it doesn't pay to take leave from the job![]()
also stated in the GPS TEAMCHALLENGE "bylaws" the team captain and as captain of the the team to redeem any jellybean's from a team members
sorry ark but your jellybeans are back to 0 ,
, I
as captain of the team I'll be sticking with the gustbusters as it's a big job setting a new team up with fins and boards ![]()
Larko Ark was adding a bit of humour as these forums can get a bit serious , all the best with the new team as I can see it rapidly growing with at least a new member every time Miller posts ,onya champ whatever your name is ![]()
cheers captain keef

rick as the new captain of the the gustbusters I would like to input , if you limit your team to 10 members some teams wouldn't have any active members after a couple of years
the cockroaches have one of the biggest teams with the most non active members , eventually there would be more pressure on the gpschallenge to control the non active members

It's up to the Team Captain to motivate the team, if a team member hasn't posted anything all season then take them off the team. What's the point of being on a team if you don't post anything.
We thought this way was better as the sailors in the Cockroaches can simply stay as they are. No need to do anything.
I was not going to tell guys "Right you havent posted so bugger off". As Rick said its up to the captain to motivate but when you cant contact or even know a lot of the members it gets hard and like banging your head against a brick wall.
If other guys want to start their own team then good luck. Our team was huge but with hardly anybody posting.
Same with the team T-shirts, 6 or 7 guys purchased one, dysfunctional to say the least. Teams like Marauders, Illawarra etc are all active, wear their team shirts etc. Its great to see.
The whole mantra that Hardie and Nebs started the comp with was "participation".
So thats what we have done. Simples.
This thread has got me thinking, (may be a bit of a worry).
The Mandurah Mob has a few inactive members, and it does concern me, seems a bit untidy somehow.
But I'm trying to figure out just how important it is.
After all what harm does it really do???
Anyway Larko good luck with the new team, it's great to be involved with a group of positive like minded people.
I think having smaller teams helps people feel that they can make a contribution. As far as inactive members, it would be a pity to delete them, maybe they like to revisit their posts from 2007, and it could be interesting also for historians one day... he,he...
Thinking about it one day we will be too old or injured for sailing, would you like your history to be removed? maybe we could create a 'gpsparadise' parallel website where the inactive oldies end up....

Hi Larko,
you've got a point mate, personally I haven't posted for a veeery long time... (got a Cockroaches T-shirt) honestly I've lost interest after buying the third GPS... anyway as acting captain can you please tell me what should I do to be excluded from the team?
Thanks, Marty

Well that's not a problem, your history remains with the team you were in at the time. You just don't show up as a current team member.
Absolutely nothing Marty. This is my point, we started a new team to be more active and have guys that post all the time.
It doesnt matter if YOU dont post, its that we wanted to move on, thought the team was too big etc.
The whole point is NOT to exclude or make people feel bad they dont post anymore. Lots of reasons for this, deosnt matter.
We just moved on. Having a GPS doesnt mean you should join a team and get into it. have fun with the thing for your own satisfaction.
So in trying to put this to bed and get back to the whole point of my post, does someone want to put their hand up and be captain???
Thanks Decrep, we shall see.
Got a gps and joined the the Team Challenge this year and put into the Cockroaches.
GPS sailing has been a blast and put a new perspective on to and fro sailing for me.
Even if its just a record of your days sail.
