where's the best spot to launch in a soputherly ,as is expexted tomorrow, at Botany bay.? Still kayeemagh or further south?
Thanks
kayeemagh is good u still get a nice run depends how long u want them to be ramsgate would give u a great run across
I find the further south you go, the lighter the wind gets. Sometimes it can be 15 knots at Kyeemagh, and there's not enough wind to plane up the channel past Dolls Point to Sandringham (on formula gear). Kurnell can be really light, but nice off Bonna Point across the mouth of Quibray Bay.
All things considered, the strongest, most consistent wind is up at Kyeemagh (best launch is at south ramp).
The smoothest water is the sand bar 1 km upwind of Sandringham - best at low tide, but the wind can be 5 knots lighter there. The sand spit should be exposed on Sat after 1 - 1:30pm (usually when the tide is below 0.8m)
Yes,
I was down at Kyeemagh around 10am. The wind was dying while there and windsurfers were coming in. Most had sails around 6.7m 6m. But the dying wind, basically the reverse of a NE seabreeze needed bigger sails than that. Bit of a bugger ![]()
I was out from 12 to 2 on a 7.7, not wild but still enough to get going.
What about SE? Where should we sail then?
Yeah I reckon something around the 7.5sqm would have been ok for most of the day. Was way underpowered on my 6.6 but none the less managed a few massive catapoltswhen it started blowing. Probably am going to wear a helmet next time![]()
I was the one witha blue spongey bit on the nose of a 144 JP (meant to protect the nose from mast damage but did not work
) and a 6.6 red KOYOTE sail. mostly sailed on the same tack as all the other guys off the southern ramp. I got there about 10 and left just after 2pm.
Not too much damage to the front of your board I hope?
If any use I've just put a Jez's know on buy and sell, good to protect the front of the board when you wipe out.
Hopefully catch up with you next time I'm down there.
I had a good hour and a half of blasting up and down the beach on my 7.8 from about 2pm. It was a nice relaxed sail and good for a bit of air on small swell near the shore
I did misjudge how shallow the water was right down the south end, kept jibeing into to the sand...not good for the fin.
